Question number one. I bought this timer pictured below and can't seem to get it to work. I turned the variable off and the manual-override control off. Next, I plugged my living room lamp into the plug. I then set the time of day to 1:00 AM and put one of the green "on" clips at 2:00 Am and the red clip at 3:00 AM. I left the other green and red clip pulled out (like the directions said). I then plugged the timer into the socket and the lamp came on. I don't understand why that is happening. The lamp was set to come on at 2:00 AM and the Time of Day was set to 1:00 AM. Shouldn't the light be off when I plug the timer into the socket and then come on at 2:00 like I programmed it to? Next question, I bought this outdoor timer today and was wondering if it would work indoors. I do not see why it wouldn't and it ever has a nice cover to help keep it water proof. Opinions?
This is a very simple mechanism. It has two settings. On and Off. When you want it to be off, pass the red insert across the off switch. When you want it to be on, pass the green insert across the on switch. It isn't terrible complicated. Good luck.
About the outdoor timer. Yes, it will work just fine indoors. except for the fact that it is balky and awkward. Wouldn't have been my first choice for a timer. But, it should work just fine. Good luck.
Mad4reef apparently I am retarded...you explanation, although very simple, confused the hell out of me. By pushing the green marker in it sets is to a specific time to turn on. By pushing the red marker in it sets it to a specific time to turn off. The problem I am having is once I set my times, it continues to run even though it has not reached the set time yet. The outdoor timer has a power cable that I will plug into a powerstrip and I will just screw the timer into the wall from that point to avoid the bulk.
Figured it out...so stupid...apparently, I thought the device was more sensitive to time then it actually is. Apparently when I set it, I put the on time too close to the "Time is it now" dial
With those mechanical timers that you put a pin at the on and off times you also have to remember that the little wheel that the pins move to turn the light on and off may be set to the wrong position for where you want to start (could be in the off position when you want them to be on, for example). Simple fix: rotate the dial (that has the numbers and pins on it) all the way around 24 hours to ensure that the last pin to "click" the switch put it to the position you want.
