My girls have very tight internodes, about 1/4" apart. I was hoping to begin my 4 way LST but am not able to until my nodes space out a little and my branches stretch a bit. My idea was to raise my light (which currently sits at 14" above the canopy) about 6"-8" in hopes that they will stretch enough for me to start their training. The downside is by doing this the plants receive less lumens, thus slowing growth. Is this true? Perhaps it would be better to be a little more patient and let the plant take it's course? Help me out fellow blades. Thanks Pons
Entirely up to you, but, I had the same issue last grow...so...I did exactly what youre thinking about, raised my lights for a week or so, just enough to get some space to train. But otherwise, close nodes are a good thing
just wait they will space out in do time check out my grow and you will see how much they will space by not moving the light
Hey Pons, Always good talking with you. To force stretching raise the night time temp with-in a few degree's of the day time temp and they will stretch. Bring night temp back down when done. Lights can stay close and maximize lumen use. ~HD
lst is to keep it small right? and tight internodes makes it small right? so whats the point of making it tall to make it small?
Get out! that's great man! There are all these generic answers floating around GC but when it comes to you there's something different. You must have a lot of experience with this marvelous plant to know all these tricks of the trade which no one else seems to be aware of. Thank you! I was trying to LST more for the benifit of spreading my plant out as opposed to letting it get tall in the middle and shorter around the perimeter (which this plant tends to do naturally). I wanted to do this so that once the plant hit the screen the entire plant hit at once allowing me to switch to flower pretty well instantly. I'm not much a fan of pulling the one main stem all over the place while the other shorter branches catch up.
when you bend the top down it causes the growth auxins to move to the lower nodes...vey similar to when you top...this plus the extra light exposure causes... moving tops and branches around is the name of the game when it come to scrog....its all about an even canopy you want that super even canopy to maximize node exposure your gonna have to put some work in most people top or fim when using a screen in the first place....its still a bunch of moving and fiddling a couple weeks into flower....srry to break the news to ya
No need to apologize. I was expecting a bit of work, and to be quite honest i really enjoy the quality time spent with the ladies. Pop some tunes on, open the closet, give my girls a little massage and maneuvering. It's great! Plus doing this really allows you to take a real good look at the girls. You will notice any deficiencies and bugs real early. I'm fortunate enough to say I've had it real easy this round. A touch of nute burn at the beginning and then a hint of N def a couple weeks into veg. But other then that they've been doing just fine. By the way I'm flipping them to flower tonight! WooHoo
Will do Deacon. Lights are out right now but come tomorrow night you fellows will have a little something to look forward to.
I prefer case studies in controlled environments. I often seek out case studies for general reading. I wish I could remember the study where I learned this. I will have to search my files. I've seen other discussions similar to this where they claim lowering night temp stretches node spacing. I've never personally seen this to be true. I only tried this twice but both times i got stretch and from a pure indica too. One precaution - increasing night time temp above day time can result in quick yellowing which is in indicator to drop it down a bit.
yo instead of having side branches that are say.... 6 inches long....with 3 nodes spaced 2 inches apart...... why wouldnt you just let it veg under perfect conditions longer instead of inducing stretch this way when your side branches do reach 6 inches....they have maybe 4 or 5 nodes instead... creating a lanky plant on purpose just seems retarded....let it veg longer naturally so you have more nodes for budsites
My apologize Deacon. For whatever reason this site wont allow me to upload photos. I tried last night and again tonight with no success. It keeps saying the Connection Was Reset. I'll continue to try over the next couple days
Got it! Apparently The site will only allow me to upload 1 at a time. So I'll select a photo, upload, select another photo, upload. What a bitch. haha Well here they are Jane on the left and Abby on the right. Photos taken yesterday evening.
lookin' good.....are they in 12/12 light.....they sould fill the screen fine and take off during flower....lots of bud sites...nice job
Ya those pictures were taken under 400w HPS. Not the best for photos, i know. I've found a couple stems to be WAY to thick to train anymore. I risk snapping them and seeing as how they are the largest, and likely bound to produce the most bud I'm not going to take the chance. looks like this screens gunna be no more then a support for them. Shitty deal. I considered super cropping bu don't know if I wanna go that route on my first run. Any ideas?
