I'm starting this thread so people can share their most thought inducing ideas. Hopefully it won't sink down to the bottom of spirituality/philosophy like so many do Here's something I thought of a while back, I was probably stoned when I did. If, somehow, our perception of time is backwards, literally the wrong way, then everything we accomplish is actually a step back. We wouldn't be building we'd be destroying, and we wouldn't know it.
very nice. i always come up with stupid shit like that. this is kind of a stupid one, and alot of times they are more thoughtful, but last night i was like "i wonder if aliens would think we are totally weird as hell, because women have more hair on their heads than men on this planet, and they would be like wtf..."
^^ then reality as we know it would be fake!! And anything we could imagine could happen when we wake up. What if we've already lived our present life, and were just 'dreaming' this all over again during our 15minutes of brain activity after we die? So in other words.. we've already died and were just re-living our lives... maybe thats why it feels like you've done so many things before. Thats from the movie waking life.
then everything is predetermined when we're born.. that's bullshit.. the end of your life is only the beginning of it..?
yea but we don't know it.. therefore we still have free will right now. Its like your making fate as you go along. If anyone can grasp that idea.
Here's a good one I thought of today. I realized that if traveling back through time were possible it would be very dangerous to do so because you would carry many diseases with you that would be fatal to those in the past. We can only tolerate today's diseases because of finely tuned resistances, people in the past don't have them. This means that just being in contact with someone in the past could cause a horrible epidemic. Then I thought of how many times in history there have been horrible epidemics. What if most human diseases can be traced to time travel? It would mean that not only is there such a thing as unregulated time travel at some point in future-history but that the diseases we know of could exist as time based anomolies there only to support themselves. Imagine this scenario: A man gets the aids virus at some point during his life and doesn't know it. He goes back in time and inadvertantly spreads the virus to others in the past. The disease spreads and mutates through the years and the aforementioned time traveler gets the disease that he accidentally planted to begin with. Considering that all life forms use a system similar to viruses this penomenon could explain all of existence.
Here's a theoretical question my brother and I were pondering the other day.. Let's say you are traveling in a car at the speed of light and you flip on your headlights. Would you be able to see the light in front of you?
We've all heard that the universe is expanding, I think it was a tribe in africa that believes at some point it will stop and start coming back. It will come back to where it all began..and then explode again. Since there are no outside forces, everything would happen again, just as it did..the first time, second time, third time etc. So how many times do you think we have had this conversation?
lol i like that idea but i don't think that is a possibility cause then theres really no point to everything :S and like that would suck for people who keep dying in lets say a car accident when their 8 yrs old. What if our dreams were just another universe... and what if we fell asleep forever and stayed in that dream and we knew that we were in a dream.. then anything could be possible.
I don't quite get it...as long as we have free will, fate doesn't exist. "Making fate" is a paradox Imagine time as a line. 0's in the middle. That's the present. If our perception were to move backwards, it would move towards the left on the time axis. At the same time time would move to the right on the same axis. That would mean the gap between our perception and real time would increase constantly. This would mean we couldn't make any real decisions any more. Which would support the theory of fate.
Yea thats true! Its just I like to believe that were all here for a reason, and if we have a reason it must be set out for us.. therefore fate. But at the same time i wanna believe in free will... so the only thing i could think of (which is really out of here) is that we are all souls, and in order to grow and become one with the universe, we go through our lives with free will and the ability to do whatever we want given our physicals laws, then when we die, we get reincarnated until we learn lifes lesson.. and then right before you die on your last life.. you just understand life and then become one with the universe. But then i ask another question.. what is becoming one with the universe?
If you go back in time to (which mathmaticall has been proven possible, watched something on it on discovery science) you might say you would be able to go back in time and kill your grandfater for example. But to do that would erase your own exsistence and in so doing erease whatever you had done in your life leaveing the question of who killed grandpa. This is where they came up with the FACT (I guess since its what the majority of scientific minds believe) that from the second you apear in the past, you are no longer in "your past" you are from that point on in an alternate universe/dimension/reality. Anything you do will have an affect on future events, but only in that time line. Going along with the fact that there are alternate universes where enevitably things are slightly different, in your own reality everything you do, you are going to do, and whatever you dont do, you dont do. Everything is pre-determined, yet to you, you are makeing the choices. Your still doing what (I guess some wierd ass power, call it god) knew you would. Unless someone steped back in time in your time to change something, but from that point on it would still be pre-determined, a reality made for the purpose of that man/whatever to go back and do what he/she did. I love thinking about this stuff....trouble is its getting boreing now, cause im running out of new ideas...damnit! p.s. What you said about souls, I agree, but thats my personal preference. I see it as each reality is one in its own the only way to learn to transend the boundaries of reality and time (be able to go to any time, any place, any reality, truely be everything) is for you/your soul/spirit to gain knowledge and grow and slowly become more understanding and mature, untill it/you are wise enogh to understand all the simplicitys and clear your head of rules and laws of science you have transdecended. Untill that time, you are in this reality and so is your spirit/soul. (unless you time travel, which for us is quite a bit away) p.s.s. There is a lab somewere in California where they are building a machine capable of sening a particle down a cylinder of high power lazers capable of accelerateing it enogh to where it goes as fast as it can, then faster, slowly sending it back in time, but so us it just dissapears, it is not really going back down the cyclinder and into the beam it was shot out of it actually goes back in time as it travels faster down it. They theorize that months or weeks or even days before they finish the machine, they will begin recieving the first particles from the machine. They also believe that for as long as this machine is on, it can be used by humans of the future and messaged may be sent back in time...but only as far back as the time it was turned on. For all we know, the second its turned on, we start picking up warning of astroids lol
Well first of all.. i think this topic can go on and on if your talking with someone... cause there seems to be an infinite amount of ideas in my opinion. And exactly with the souls thingy. It just seems like the coolest idea and it explains most of the unknown in this universe. Damn, everytime i think about this stuff i come to one conclusion.. life fucking rocks!
If it's possible to go faster than the speed of light, and you could travel far enough away, then set up a high powered telescope, then I would think you could watch things that happened in earths past..like the atomic bomb going off..and things like that....that would be cool
Haha...yes...unfortunately. You can see it in peoples face if they're black or white, even if you have no colour. Black people for example usually have thicker lips and noses than white. Asian have the eyes. Yuo can often hear it in their voices if you listen closely. And you see different shades of grey. Not too difficult to tell a blonde dutch girl from a dark haired spanish girl. Greeks have quite distinkt faces...mostly of course. You could always be mistaken, but there are certain giveaways to race other than colour of skin
i thought being colour blind meant that you can't tell the difference between similar colours like red and orange??
Nope...you got red-green-blind. They can't tell the difference between those two. Colourblinds see black and white. Like the old tv-sets. Damn I still remember growing up with those. Bet half the city's population has never watched tv on a black and white...
I got in an arguement with a friend of mine about whether a parking line was yellow or green. We argued for a good 3 minutes then he told me he was color blind! It was pretty damn funny
