Those of you who started smoking at a young age, has it made you “dumber”?

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Smokesignals420, Jan 20, 2021.

  1. I started smoking at 16 and was recently considering this question as a 20-something male.

Are there any observable differences in your everyday life? It almost feels like my brain has more trouble finding the right sentences. Maybe my level of intellect has just grown, so I think more about what I say.

    What are your thoughts?

  2. Could it be you simply were more well read in school? I've noticed my vocabulary diminish greatly after middle school, which, in mid middle school is when I really stopped reading.

Now I don't pay it much mind as I've gotten used to it over the years

People have fallen in love with words and lost the world. It’s time to regain it.

  3. I was 19 when I started. I've used cannabis for over 50 years. I read medical studies while stoned. My brain works just fine! :GettingStoned:

  6. It makes me make really dumb random mistakes in mathematics if I'm currently high or got too high the night before and have a test in the morning.
If I smoke too much I forget some of what I studied too.

So I've basically concluded that I cant use it if I'm doing anything academically important in my life. Or atleast I have to use it sparingly and in between exams. Although I wouldn't want to instigate forgetting a drop of knowledge when a grade is on the line.

I know people who dont stimulate their minds at all and smoke weed and they seem pretty dumb. Cant handle life problems, cant solve simple problems, and have terrible sense of time management, dont understand what you say unless you break it down for them for the 3rd time.

    To each his own really.
I've never felt better than being sober. But I know people who are unaffected genuises on weed.

Having a tolerance and not abusing the drug plays a factor too.

I do believe abusing cannabis as a kid has affected my memory as an adult, but my memory has always been something to self-study and understand.

I wouldn't blame cannabis first, ide blame my usage and my lifestyle. Hit the books and challenge your mind. Even brain games will probably help.

  7. It's good to be self aware of these things. Cannabis isnt some perfect drug, it has its drawbacks.
Many people wouldn't even question it, so congrats

  8. After over 45 years of smoking off and on....I can't say weed took anything away from the experience in that way. As astrohammer says, at the wrong time, it can mess you up on the simplest things! But overall, I think I'm just calmer and happier as a result and that was the intent!

  9. I don't think that smoking for over 50 years has made me dumber but it has affected my memory. I have a very bad short term memory.

  10. Pretty sure studies conclude it doesn't really make a difference. There's a ton of other factors too. Not worth regretting smoking. Fuck it life's short.

  11. Smoked weed from 11-21. Then took a break and got back on in my early 30s. Idk the struggle is real I guess. Still makes me feel like that tool teenager but it helps sometimes with adult issues. I feel like I’m pretty smart. I’m not a dumb slug but I do notice if I get to much on the grass it does skew my perspective.

  12. I think smoking cannabis has saved my life. My mental illness and addiction to other substances did far more damage than cannabis. I've been smoking since 1968.
