Thirsty plants

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Misseerie, Nov 1, 2011.

  1. Is it bad to let my plants get real thirsty? I water a gal per pot every 3 days, now that the girls are in flower.... and with the hours I work, If I dont water now, I cant til tomorrow. Unless I water in the dark. In a selfish move I choose to smoke in the last few mins before I leave, instead of water. They should be fine right? Am I affecting them by letting them get so thirsty before watering? They get droopy but not wilty

  2. It'll be alright. Marijuana is pretty tolerant of drought most the time. Although, you should just take care of your plants. There's no reason to try to grow something, and make it a second priority under something that really isn't all that important.

Depending on how large your pots are, you could be watering more at a time. 1 gallon in a 5 gallon pot is not enough. 1 gallon would probably be okay for about a 1 gallon pot in my opinion. You want a solid run off before you stop watering.

  3. ^I agree^ You want to let them get a little dry but not bone dry. If you don't have time to do a full watering, just a glass of RO water will be enough to keep them healthy and not stressing too much. Just make sure to do a proper watering later on

Naw, I wasn't neglecting the girls for lame reasons... Just didn't have a ton of time this morning. There is still some moisture. The girls are in 12inch square pots that are a few gallons, maybe 5. They all get watered at the same time, with good run off. I just wanted to make sure an extra day is not to stressful on them. Does the light bulb and new 12/12 stress them? Should I wait awhile before I switch the nutes over? Maybe start at half strength?

  5. It depends on how well your soil holds water, and how much the strain requires. Even in flower, mine only really needed water every three to four days. The question is, how dry is the soil after three days? I watered 5 gallon pots with 2 gallons each per watering.

  6. I use Happy Frog, it seems to hold water well. I feel like two gallons would be to much for me.... I get about a quart run off currently, its all reabsorbed with in 15 minutes. It is ok to leave the water run off in the basin, right? Just as long as its not for a long time...

  7. I dont have a set watering schedule. I try to water all at the same time but some seem to require more than others so now that I'm in the middle of flowering I check at leastevery two days. It makes it hard to keep track of feeding. I'll be updating my grow journal very soon.

  8. I know how you feel. My Chemdog soaks up water like crazy but my JTR doesn't. It does make it really hard to track feedings but journals work great for that. Or a notepad in, on, or near the grow works good too. Just jot down what you gave them and when

  9. I have to write it down... I have short term memory issues:smoke:. Dont tell yourself you will write it down later either, cause you wont.:D Everything seems fine. These are some thirsty plants

  10. Haha I have to write it down too. I always forget. I just do light feedings with every watering. Some a little stronger then others but I keep it prettying constant. They seem to like it. Using all organics tho. Don't think you'll get the same results. Maybe but I'd still water after the 2nd consecutive feeding to be sure.
