Thinking Differently

  1. the human mind is powerful. much more than we usually give it credit for. to discover the power of your own mind, try this: stop your inner monologue. now continue thinking. don't use any words. don't imagine any pictures. give your attention to anything that floats across your mind. you may find that you can think of many different things at once, and observe many different things in a single instance. it may help you perceive things that you could never put into words.

  2. Too many people take the human mind for granted, it saddens me.

thinking in this way helps you access the "holographic" nature of the universe. in a hologram, the entire picture is contained in every part, no matter how small. for instance, if you take a peice of holographic film which contains a picture of an apple and you cut off a peice, it will contain the entire picture of the apple. you can project a hologram from that peice and it will produce an image of the apple, just smaller.

the thing about holographic film is, its not like movie film. movie film has actual pictures on it. holographic film looks like the surface of a pond if you were to throw a handful of pebbles into it. its a series of interfering ripples, waves if you will. when one looks at the Universe as a hologram, you can see the whole in every part. you can see the underlying pattern interwoven into everything. you can think one thing, and in a single second think of everything associated with that thing. when one sees the interconnectedness of things, its easier to know what to do in life. it becomes easier to make the right considerations, ask the right questions, make the right descisions, because your decisions will be more informed. when you open your mind up to the All, you can see more of the big picture. when you can see the big picture, it makes the little picture of your own life so much clearer.

  4. Reminds me of a quote from R. Gordon Wasson that I normally butcher, but goes along the lines of "At last you finally know of the unspeakable, what the ineffable really is."

And that was after he returned to American from his time with Mexican Shamans in Mexico.

  5. thats a really excellent quote. it sums up what im saying quite nicely. words and images can describe alot, but when they fail, there is still a whole world of observation beyond them.

  6. Couldn't agree more! :hello:

  7. im not talking about "they", or the man, or some far off group of people. im talking about you and i. every human. its natural for us to only pay attention to whats in front of our eyes, whatever is the most easily perceptible. its natural for us to think that one thing doesnt effect another. in truth, all things are interconnected. when we realize this we see our lives not as isolated incidences in time, but as parts of a greater whole. we see every object, every event, every idea as part of a cell in the animal which is our Universe.

  8. Man i just tried this, and it didn't work... I still continued to see all these objects as the same objects.

  9. well what did you expect, to go on a self induced acid trip? the whole point of thinking this way is to function better in reality by allowing yourself to see the underlying patterns in life. the oneness of all things. its hard to see that when your thoughts are made up of words and times and places. there are things that words cant describe, things that cant be understood with linear, chronological thinking, things that you probably notice anyway but ignore because it cant be put to words, or to a picture.

thinking like this isnt like being reborn. its subtle. it helps you see the world more clearly. the results of this method are much more pronounced when you use it in your everyday life, perhaps at work or school. for instance, your boss could tell you to go grab a shovel, and on the way over to the shovel you start to feel bad about how much work sucks. now, most people at this point would say somthing to themselves, like "man this sucks, i wanna go home" or "gotta make that money somehow". when you think about it, in saying that little comment in your head, you are repeating yourself. you already felt a certain way, your mind already noticed how much your job sucks, you already know that you wanna be at home. in taking the time to voice that sentiment to yourself, you are wasting time.

if you didnt take the time to say that to yourself, your mind would be free to notice the beautiful sky for instance. you might notice the sky and see the Earth beneath it, and remember that you came from that Earth. you might remember that the energy that fuels your beating heart came from the very soil that you stand on. you may remember that you are working this job to sustain yourself, because you are alive. the customers want your service because they too are alive, and they seek to improve their lives with your service. you could think all of these things in a single moment without a word passing through your mind. or you could say to yourself, "man this sucks", and have that remark playing in your head on loop for the rest of the day until somthing else strikes your attention.
