thinking about buying a knife

Discussion in 'General' started by xLoneWolfx, Jan 3, 2013.

  1. I got a bunch of Christmas money and lately I've been interested in buying myself a knife. I work construction so it would be useful and I'd want one to use as a self defense weapon if needed. In don't know shit about knives. I was at this sporting good store earlier and they have some nice benchmade lifetime warranty knives. The biggest one was amazing. It was black and fully extended maybe 8 inches long. Maybe more. It was $200. Then ivlookes on Amazon and they have tons of knives for like $10 lol. What would you guys recommend?

  2. Smith and Wesson, Buck, Gerber, Kershaw. Theres a jumping point, Mid level pocket knives.

  3. You can get a real nice knife for under $50, i would suggest going to your local outdoorsman store (idk wtf to call them but something like dicks sporting goods or cabelas) and ask the people that work there about knives.

  4. I got a smith and wesson a couple months ago. It's built well, definitely better than most of the knives I have. I also have a zombie tools machete.

  5. Dont get a knife for self defense that is just plain retarded. Harsh but true.

The winner of a knife fight is the guy who gets to the hospital quicker.

Buy a pistol and take some training classes. Get a knife for opening boxes and cutting shit besides other humans.

  6. i sold knives for a small stint over the summer learned some pretty solid shit about knives lol, make sure them rivits aint brass nickah shits gunna rust all up, get that nickle or silver

  7. I've spent more money of knives before, but I'll never do it again after finding the Buck Bantam. I used to ignore Buck as a gimmick brand, but no more. They come in a wide variety of colors and sizes. Incredibly well built and high quality steel for the price. You can buy three or four of these for the cost of an overpriced big name brand knife.

And no serrations. I really hate serrations on my work knives. Who uses that crap?

Here's a Google Image page of Bantam knives.

  8. Check out Benchmade, they make some good stuff.

  9. You get what you pay for.

Benchmade is outstanding. I love their knives even though they are more on the expensive side, but they do build quality knives. ColdSteel is another quality company so check them out. CRKT is another one. And hey, seeing how you're a lone wolf, check out Lone Wolf Knives ;]

  10. I have a Smith and Wesson extreme ops that I bought for like $30ish on knivesdepot. I'm very happy with it, you may want to get a sharpener though as it has dulled over the past 6 months. I also need to get new screws for the belt clip but that might be my fault.

  11. You're a tradie and you don't own a knife? About time you got on that.

I use a Gerber Gator as my daily workhorse. I don't think I'll ever go back to anything else.

  12. i dont think you need 8 inch knifes to kill somebody like their vital organs and blood vessels are only a few inches in their body. 8 is only making your knfie harder to hide.

also 200 is kind of expensive imo a knife is just a sharp piece of metal you can buy 20 knifes for 10$ at that same price then you can dual weild and be twice as deadly.

  13. Some of my knives. The one in the upper left corner is the knife by Lone Wolf Knives.

  14. It's not just a sharp piece of metal. They make knives out of different types of steel. Steel quality matters when it comes to knives.

  15. who cares though the cheap ones are only 10$ each thats like 1 less 4th meal at taco bell

  16. Jackhawk 9000.

  17. Thanks for the responses. Read them all but I'm at work and don't have time to respond to them all. Here's a couple pics of them. I like the big all black one in the back so much.

  18. Depending on the laws in your state you could get a gravity knife. Not only Gangsters use them ya know. Only requires one hand which is the selling point for self defense and work applications. If you have one hand busy holding something you can't open a knife now can ya? Invest in a good one though not a flimsy 20$ one at the local mall.

  19. This thread is making me want to buy a new knife! This guy is looking mighty sexy to me..

  20. benchmade are excellent. Also KA Bar, but those suckers are expensive. Catz or katz is actually another knife co and they're pretty damn good. Bucks are always a good choice, gerber is not bad for the price.
