"..The sunlight together with the moisture in the ground is necessary to produce the sugars that make the fruit tasty. Not enough water, you will have sour and or dry tasting fruit or in a more extreme case, no fruit at all." Source: Quora - How does a fruit tree produce fruit? Answered by Rick LaVasseur

Thats not true. Well I guess in a way it is. Obviously the plant cant take anything in if its dying of thirst. However most people like myself wait till the soil dries up quite a bit to avoid over watering, fungal problems, and pest. Flavor in the plant depends on strain mainly, whats fed, when she's harvested, and how she's dried and cured. Under watering wont effect taste other than limiting nutes (sugars included). It most definitely will effect growth, health, stress, and outcome CanniAnnie's Quest for balance
That article is about perennial fruit trees Cannabis is none of those things. While it does technically produce a "fruit" (seeds) we generally aren't growing it for the fruit. We want the flowers and not even them really, we want the resins produced mostly in said flowers
But with too little water they won't produce pears. I started this board under the assumption that there is a fine line between hindering production and hindering sweetness.
With too little water any plant will just die so yea. Water your plants But it's generally not the best to keep you soil super wet. A variety of issues can arise that will cripple your production more than if you just let the soil breathe.
