hey i got my new thermometer in the mail today, i have no idea where in my closet i should mount it? it also has a sensor wire so i guess my position of the actual unit dosnt matter if i'm using that? if so where should i put the wire? sorry for such a noob question but i really wanna get it in there
hmm after readin the instructions (altho they suck barely tell you anything) it appears the sensor wires for outside temp? so positioning is vital still?
Keep the thermometer at plant level to take temperatures of where the plants are and try to put the probe higher than the plants to monitor the hottest grow room temperatures.
ok so let me see if i have this correct, probe is for outside temp? but in this case we using it as 2x indoor ones? so in otherwords rather than putting outside i put inside as well?
ok sweet, well for now i have it on the side wall bout half way down (higher than the plant now but will be around level with its tips once grown) so i stick the probe uptop somewhere? and lets say my main heat is below light level (no air cooled hood atm) and my exaust sucks the air out from above it keeping it cool, so in this case could i maybe stick the probe under my plant (hidden by all the leafs/branches) or something instead?
The thermometer at the level of the plants in the grow space and the probe can either be higher up to take the temp reading of the top of the room (hottest temp) or in the intake air vent (probably the coolest temps).
ok cool i just thought as my meter is out of the radiant (or how ever you spell that) heat and there is really no heat at top unless i setup fan to turn on/off but atm it runs non stop while lights are on so i thought maybe see how hot it gets right at base of plant with my fan blowing on it... but i guess i can pretty much put it where ever then... anyways thanks for your imput it helped alot
No problem. THe way you'd want a grow room set up is intaking cool air from a low area on a wall or somewhere low and an exhaust fan up on the high part of a wall or up on the ceiling. This helps move air from down to up. So using a thermometer like this, you can register your plant level temperature and the hottest temp in the room I usually keep my grow area 70-74F, 75F is fine too but I found temperatures around 80 without CO2 supplementation led to somewhat fluffy buds and it looked like it grew outdoors rather than indoors. Keep a watchful eye for that.
here is a link to my newb journal if you want to take a look, it has a pic of my closet where you can see the intakes/exhaust (altho ive made some modifications to it since) so it dosnt look the same as the pic. http://forum.grasscity.com/hydroponic-grow-journals/895124-400w-dwc-first-attempt-journal.html (btw if your looking at this link to see my setup you cant really see it but the exhaust blows straight out the back of box and out the window behind it) also my temps (according to my old shit i think not accurate meter) sit around 25 degrees thru the day at this time of year (cant wait to get some batterys for new one later and find out) and i am not mistaken 25 degrees would be perfect temp? or at least in the good range.
I have a thermometer like that, and I keep the unit itself on the outside and the probe on the inside. It can be a little confusing at first because the probe reading is labeled "outside" but you are using it to measure "inside" the box. I like the unit on the outside so I can read the temps without having to open the grow box. The temp you want to measure is plant-top height directly below the lights, basically the worst of what the plants are actually experiencing.
