It's funny. The people who say this usually aren't those who are in the upper tax brackets and are unaware of how much they actually do pay in tax. And forget about capital gains, too. A consumption tax would really end this stupid debate on taxes.
They've been putting the burden on middle income families for too long goddamnit! Those greedy bastards...
Well, that's likely because those in these tax brackets hire accountants to do their taxes. They don't likely have a damn clue how much they have (or owe) either, so no surprise they don't know how much they pay on it all. Absofuckinglutely it would. Unfortunately, it would also end this stupid debate on whether we need this entire government division called the "IRS" as well. And that's not including all the tax accountants or legal revenue generated from audits. Good luck going against that corruption.
Taxing the shit out of the mega rich (over $5,000,000 a year) would help with the budget deficit. The main problem is spending though, giving the federal government more money to play with is ridiculous if they are just going to spend it on war, bureaucracy and bailouts.
Already happens. Whole point of the thread. But yes, spending is the problem. Particularly transfer payments, in my opinion.
I guess its open to subjective interpretation what "taxing the shit out of someone" means but to me its probably the rate rates we had in the 60's not the ones we have now.
The income tax should be abolished completely, same with the corporate tax, capital gains, dividends, etc. I don't want a consumption tax to replace them though, replace them with nothing.
But but.. the guberment is so good at managing all dat money.. you would just probably spend it on stupid shit!
I'm sorry, but how would introducing new taxes (while removing others) mean the end of the IRS? Taxes will still need to be collected. God forbid people exchange goods without them being taxed. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAjSujaA7nY]Consumption taxes are not voluntary - YouTube[/ame]
It really sucks that the US tax system is so fucking complicated that the average person has to hire a professional to help make sure the person isn't getting screwed as bad.
I don't want to be a millionaire because then I'll have to pay more taxes. Said no one ever.
Only if you pay more taxes do you not like more taxes yes?
We shouldn't have taxes so progressive that people are discouraged from working... said every economist ever.
