So I was in Astronomy class and got really bored and started thinking. In theory it is suggested that the universe is infinitely large. But what if you looked at it differently, what if the universe was infinitely small on different planes? For the universe to be infinitely large, then it would have to be constantly expanding right, like a cell? So what if our universe is part of a proton in the atom in a cell of some organism infinitely larger than ourselves. I know that people say quarks are the smallest it gets, but what if, and I usually hate the what if game, there were things infinitely smaller than what we could even conceputally fathom? I don't know, I just was bored and started thinking which is never a good combination for me.
i've had the exact same thoughts before (a similar theory is discussed in Animal House when they smoke with the prof). fun shit to think about when you're really high.
thats exactly the way i think of it like the universe is just an atom in something else, and theres probably a tiny universe inside all the atoms on earth as humans we think of ourselves as the standard size, but in reality in some other un iverse our heads alone could be the size of the sun to us and we think of the universe as ever increasing in size, but at one point our universe was ever shrinking until it came into a ball so tiny that it exploded back out so perhaps theres multiple universes that are expanding, and then they meet with another universe and the gravity pulls the different parts of the universe together into another little tiny ball that explodes again i have a hard time believing that at one point there was absolutely nothing and then a big explosion happened i really doubt the big bang is how EVERYTHING was created... maybe just in our universe, but not throughout the infinite man, i wish i fuckin knew what else was out there, i mean the universe HAS to be inside something else, like think of the universe as a marble MIB style, and the marble is in your room, your room is in your house, your house is inside the earths atmosphere, the earth is inside our galaxy, the galaxy is inside the universe like where the fuck does it end, does it ever end, infinity is just a concept you cant truly imagine
Joe Rogan does a skit that kind of expresses this sentiment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THooC676t2A But yeah, I wish I had taken astronomy as an elective in university. I want to more about the cosmos.
Ive thought of this too. I also believe the higher your consciousness the more understanding you are of these things.
if you really think about it, whats not to say we arent on a tiny particle floating around in a much bigger universe? it could be like horton hears a who....and we are the who......... no thats creepy man. lol
I often lay awake in my bed thinking how can space go on and on without an end... Is there some sort of wall or is it truly infinite?
I have a hard time believing that space is truley infinite in the way we think of as infinite. And if space is infinite, the universe can't be, or at least in accordance with other principles. Imagine, in theory, that you could get in a self sustaining spaceship, never die, and just start in one direction and never stop. For you to keep going and keep encountering new celestial bodies would mean that the universe is constantly growing out into nothingness which goes agians the basic laws of matter stating that matter can't be created or destroyed. So either that law of matter is flawed in some manner, or the universe is limited and there is just nothingness outside of it, like an oasis in the middle of a desert. Any thoughts on that?
