  1. This thread was inspired by the beautiful pictures provided by melt & featherbug.

The Universe is such a beautiful place, I think it deserves its very own thread.

    Post any picture you'd like...

one of the pics u posted is a star called v838 monocerotis' light echo....it was taken in october 2004. I have pics (can't get them up) that show the same thing in may, september, october and december of 2002. Each pic shows the copper colored nebula around the bright res star in the middle getting blown further and further out into space. The first pic (may2002) looks like a breast. Almost a perfect circle with the red star directly in the center...... as time goes on, it got to what it is now.......

  9. Beauty is all around us and some may never realise this. Great pictures and quite inspiring. Makes you realize just how small we really are and if there is other forms of intelligence that have figured out how to travel to other galaxies, which very well may be it's possible they haven't found us yet? Some people think that in order to believe in other life they need to see it which is bullshit.

True that bro, and these are pictures of the stuff that we can see, imagine what else lay out there beyond our senses. When I look at pictures like the ones in this thread I imagine what other kinds of lifeforms there may be living on distant worlds, or swimming in deep blue seas? What knowledge has been amassed at the other end of the universe, what epic battles have been waged or kingdoms built along the celestial moons of forgotten worlds? In the scheme of things man is a faint whisper in a black hole, we have lived and we are here but so is an entire universe.

The most beautiful things in the universe
are the starry heavens above us
and the feeling of duty within us.

  12. Many people overlook the extensive beuty that lies in our own cosmic neighborhood. The sun is (imo) one of the most interesting and amazing objects in all of space. Granted it is a reletively average sized, age, and type of star, it is stars like that that give the cosmos the ingredients for life.
