The United States lost the Vetnam War

  1. So essentailly the Vietnam war was trying to stop Communism from spreading from the north to the south.
So the USA sends in a bunch of troops and equitment then lose almost 60000 men and just up and leave south vietnam who then fell to the communist north shortly after
    So we totaly lost
we lost 60000 men, millions of dollars worth of supllies and equitment, and after all that we didnt even accomplish our mission of stoping the communist.

but technically the vietnam war wasnt even a war it was a policing action but point is we got our asses kicked in vietnam and blew a bunch of money.

  2. We won militarily pretty much every conflict. What we lost was the initial goal of stopping communism. To say we got our ass kicked is wrong.

  3. Their mission was never to stop communism though, it was to remain in a war in order to fuel our Military-industrial complex. A lot of U.S. companies made a lot of money sacrificing their fellow Americans

  4. What we lost was a shit a load of money and lives and we didnt get anything accomplished

  5. Another reason the US didn't accomplish defeating communism was that the presidents were not listening to the generals and admirals. They tried to control it too much.

Qft. The people didn't gain anything, but it definitely made some Americans filthy rich, which was probably the goal in the first place. Gotta give people a reason for high taxes going into an endless unauditable pit like the military. Why do you think we've been at war for the last decade?

Kill the poor, make the elite rich. Same as our war now. Pretty fucked if I say so myself

  8. Yeah that makes alot of sense. Never thought about it like that.

  9. We did not lose the Vetnam (Vietnam) war we withdrew and the SVA lost the war.

  10. It was the first war mass televised, the american citizens pretty much ended the war, because they didnt like what they were seeing

  11. We should've done something about the Khmer rouge instead. What those people did to their own people was fucked up. Of course those fuckin hippies would've bitched about it but fuck them.

  12. The really fucked up part is that both sides were ready and willing to stop the war in '68 but Nixon was running for president and didn't want the war ended during LBJ's term, so he sent men to convince the South Vietnamese to reject the treaty until a Republican was in office. [IMG]

  13. We lost BUT..

The USA cannot simply LOSE. We can only have mutual defeat.

  14. Lol have you seen footage of us planes dumping napalm and dropping a shit load of bombs how did we get our asses kicked? Did we ever get napalm dropped on our neighborhoods? The biggest thing the Vietnamese had goin for them is they were fighting on there home turf and knew all the good spots to go and shit and they wee used to the humidity. Sort of like in the middle east today. it was a tie you can't say we lost really because nobody really won..

  15. Another reason US forces didn't defeat the NVA and Vietcong was that we went into a guerilla war with a conventional military designed at this point in time to fight the Russians.

Also you can never truly win a guerilla war.

  16. 37 years late on this?

  17. is this true? if so thats so fucked up..

  18. Part of the problem was the NVA crossing into Cambodia & Laos then popping up in the South. Using the neighboring countries to get behind & under the SVA. LBJ wouldn't call up the reserves because at that time it was a safe haven for "certain individuals" who were looking to avoid military service. Nobody wants to be labled the POTUS who cut & run which is part of the reason Nixon inherited the war & LBJ didn't seek re-election.

  19. Yeah, god forgive a president would value and protect his own life over a corrupt war!
