I'm going to see The Shins tomorrow night in Houston and i'm going to be so high. hopefully on firecrackers. Then the next night is Explosions. I want to get boomers but i doubt i'll be able to. its going to be a fun week. Has anyone seen these bands live? i saw both at Austin City Limits but not a whole show. It should be good. peace.
wtf man, those are some of my fav bands gerrr i get ditched out of all the good bands, but why, and i missed chong when he came home awile ago.
two incredible bands. i haven't heard any of the shins new album, anyone got anything to say on it? on a side note, there's only one song by explosions in the sky i don't like and it's the one where he's talking about the seed growing out of the earth and he talks about hell or something. i can't remember 100% but i know that was the only song i couldn't listen to of theirs
Explosions in the sky is one of my favorite post-rock bands. Do Make Say Think is playing here on the 29th. I think I'll try to get down to the city for that.
The album, IN MY OPINION, is mediocre and pedantic. It just exploits the Shins' best qualities by filling every song up with them to the brim. Sounds good in theory but it just didn't work, to me. Like James Mercer was like, "Hey, let's have a little 'whoa-oh-oh' section in that song, and I'll harmonize with myself on three separate tracks, and it'll be like a little mini-choir of me, just because my voice is good for shit like that." The album does have a few good songs though. So whatever.
I like their new album very much. Boasts a good deal of originality with their instrumental and vocal tones I believe, still remaining very shins-esque. there's my 2 cents.
I also think the new shins album is great. Very good music to chill to at the end of the nite w/ a jay in hand. I actually liked the new album a little bit better than their two previous albums which are also great. I highly recommend it
