Found no thread dedicated to red wine, though I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who enjoy fermented grape juice Pretty easy to get confused when in the shop buying wine. So perhaps we here can seperate the piss from the delicious. Now, I'm no big fan of white wine, too acidic and too sweet, so let's stick to the red stuff. I'll start off with my current favourite. Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Baune "La Daligniere" 2007 A great little French Pinot-Noir. Medium to low prized, so very affordable. Best thing about this wine, is that it is excellent for just chilling with. Being quite fruity it helps if also smoking. It's not dry with pronounced tannins like wines from most other grapes. It is somewhat acidic, but it do not dominate due to the well rounded sweetness of it. It's quite strong at 12.5% which in my book is a plus. Easily drinkable, and easily likeable. 8 out of 10
There are some good Box'o'Wines, but they are few and far between But I got another reasonable reccomendation. American this time. Cloudline Oregon Pinot Noir 2007 American wines are often like american cars. Designed around a single concept. Like go fast in a straight line, or cruise the highways in great comfort. So to with this excellent wine. It is a very straight Pinot Noir. Nothing fancy, just a very simple but very good wine. At first it seems almost too simple, devoid of any real taste. But that is just the two first sips. After that it opens up into a single-minded rich aroma. It is moderatly sweet with little aftertaste. It is a great little stand-alone wine and very affordable. 7 out of 10
I like expensive wine, but i'm way to cheap for that. For me, the drier the better. I like Cabernet almost exclusively, but I'm trying to experiment with some Shiraz and Chianti to see how I like it. There are a lot of good blends out there too. My last bottle was the Barefoot Cabernet. It used to be $4.99 a bottle at tradaer joes, but has since gone up about $14.
