We have lost sight of that when most individuals within a society sacrifice their individual happiness for the well being of some nebulous collective. Unless each member has their needs met, you are not helping society. if something is meant to benefit society, it should benefit the individuals therein. What am I on about?
I agree with the other point of view, I don't think society cares one bit about the individual, it's all about the perpetuation of society itself. We're like ants in an anthill, a handful of ants don't matter at all, it's the survival of the mound.
