Been thinking of doing this for a long time. This forum can get kinda one dimensional with all the what/when/how/why topics. So since I've been on earth awhile, and some of the music that moved my head and my body back when I was most of you young whippersnappers age, coupled with the fact that a lot of this is great stuff that's being relegated to the dark corners of the closet. So in a effort to drag what once was cool to see if it still works in the 21st century, I am challenging my fellow O.F.F.'s to contribute some weird head music that you used the big ear muff headphones to trip out in the dark in the 70's. Not necessarily the pop stuff, something obscure that might perhaps reignite a generation of Peter Gabriel's. Speaking of Pete, here's my first submission for the old head music thread. You should have a fairly decent buzz on, much volume, and perhaps..... candles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56NNICmo6hc
I'll even be a icebreaker and do another one. C'mon, somebody surprise with something I missed way back then! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIyh_02pmBU Please don't leave me here standing by myself. I'll feel silly. Then I won't leave the house. And the dog starts guilt tripping me. You can help. Please give.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE0JTDhvsJE The age of a song has absolutely nothing to do with how good it is. If kids these days (I'm only 22, a kid too) think that shit has to be new to be good, then they've got a screw loose in their brain. That's just straight up irrational. edit: ooops, didn't realize you meant 70's prog rock only. When it comes to prog rock, my fav is probably weirder Alan Parsons Project stuff. Doesn't have to be 70's. It trickled over into the 80's. Just trying to avoid Freebird or Stairway to Heaven. Btw, I like Ultimate Spinach. Acid Jam!
YES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKftiJS30Cs YES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51oPKLSuyQY And more YES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33SRbmdGbBg Just a few samples of a really good band that is great for headphones and chilling. Still not tired of them after 24 years. (Been on a bit of a YES kick lately).
Thumbs up onthe yes. I listen to this album once a eeek it seems. Brufords drumming is awesome, andersons wailing is on key and that weird little guitarist is awesome...the bass player is off the chain...and this was their first album....
I feel like first albums are usually the most "characteristic" of a band, before the record label has come in and said "Hey, this is the sound we want for your next album. Suck on that!"
If I may respectfully intrude on a thread not made for me - I'm 25; A lot of us young whippersnappers really appreciate old music. Many of us prefer it. My ex, a wonderful young woman, barely listened to anything made after 1979. Some of best new stuff takes inspiration from the old, so much that you couldn't guess which decade it came from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai8REXLAc (2011)
Well, I grew up in the 70s but my mom was a lesbian so if it was not sung by a female prob. did not hear it..lol
I'm aware. I was just trying to put where some of the Seasoned crowd would see it because I figured they were like me and don't go around the music forum much. Whatevah.
Ain't no age restrictions and I apologize if that's how I came off, it was late, I was high..... But I applaud your selection! What I was hoping for, hear something I'm not familiar with. I like them Sheepdog guys.
You don't have to be old to appreciate this music. Most of what I listen to comes from the 60's and 70's. I can't stand 90 percent of today's music.
Randy California Ed Cassidy Spirit of 76 loved this album.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqbnAFi_cwE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWCxAElOSxM
Had some strange visions doing this one in the dark with the full cushion headphones on. And upon investigation, the demonic voices at the beginning are saying, "The music is reversible, time is not. Turn back, turn back, turn back, turn back." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt6o03K_y54
