The Official Graff Thread

Discussion in 'The Artist's Corner' started by Only Live Once, Mar 24, 2007.

  1. There's been a alot of graff threads on this place, but we need one that stays and doesn't disappear that same day. I'll bump this shit as much as I have to.

I love graffiti w/ a passion. I do bubbles/blocks/burners/wildstyles, couple characters, stencils, and wheatpasting. I like to mix it up a bit.

Been doing it for 2 and a half years, with hours of practice a day. I have gotten good enough to be able to do legal walls and murals, which is a good feeling to have, knowing that you've improved as well as seeing your piece look ill as hell thanks to the practice that you endured to get to that point.

I'll try to get some pictures of some sketches, but I just wanted to set this thread up so we don't see anymore graff threads go down the crapper.

    Contribute, reak havoc, critique...let's roll.

not exactly how I wanted it to turn out, but it's ok I guess. I got the green and gold outlines backwards. I'm also trying to figure out my own style, it's hard for me to come up with letters that flow good. Advice on what I should do would be nice.

  3. well i might as well share i guess.....enjoy

    Bump-diddely-umpcious.

  5. thank youi sir

  6. I have been wanting to learn how to do this for a while. I tried a bit today but I really have no clue what im doing. Do you guys know of any site online that could give me some pointers on how to make it look decent. I know that alot of art just involves alot of practice but it seems like there is a large amount of technique involved too. Any help would be good. I have been practicing on these giant piece of cardboard from broken down boxes that I got at my work so I have alot of space to practice on.

  7. it is mostly practice. try sketching with markers before even getting to the spray paint for a while. then once you have a sketch you like try to paint it on one of those cardboard peices. fill in first, background, then outline is the order i usually use. if you are new to this then there are various cap (aka tip) sizes to affect the width and pressure of the paint coming out of your can. also, more expensive brands such as rusto, mtn, or belton have thicker and better valves which most tips will work on, thicker paint, and have paint more durable to weathering.

that's just the basic idea, there's a lot more to it but i don't feel like typing.
try http://www.learngraffiti.net/ or http://stencilrevolution.com/ for some tutorials.

  10. Best advice i can give you is sketch and sketch hard, dont go all wild off the bat go simple and let it evolve , your own style has to evolve its not something you just make up one night, and if someones hateing on your shit it only means their looking at it

  11. Yeah, you really have to let your style flow and evolve to get to the point where you want to be, though in graffiti you never feel completely satisfied.

    Just practice, practice, practice man...

  12. is graffiti supposed to be letters or names? i was always curious about what it means.

  13. It's usually letters spelling out an alias, because obviously we aren't going to use our real name in our pieces, especially if it's an illegal spot.

There's exceptions for this though, this isn't exactly exclusive.

  14. ok please, please go easy on me XD
