the Net Neutrality thread

  1. You're close. To break into the ISP industry, you need to build a better (fiber-optic) Wide Area Network that is faster, and lower cost to operate than all of the incumbents currently in the market. We looked into the numbers when FiOS started their initial roll out and we estimated they would have to acquire about 20-30% of the market to make a return on the investment.

  2. Or you can take control of existing infrastructure. What are they going to do? Pull the plug? Customers have already paid many times over the cost of infrastructure. It belongs to us. To deliver the internet should by now be easy and close to free. But Comcast, AT&T and the like have been spending on content and charging for access, ever higher fees. They rake huge profits. We all suffer.

  3. Exactly what do you mean by "take control of existing infrastructure"? Are you saying the government should socialize private property owned by the telecommunications companies? How is this not out right theft?

Are you an investor in Comcast, AT&T, Charter, Verizon, etc... or are you just a customer? If you are just a customer, do you believe the company you get internet access from should make a profit from the investment their shareholders paid for? What makes you believe it belong to you? Do you realize that your yearly internet bill is less than 1/1000th of the total cost of a CMTS & Backbone Router and the energy to power them (annually)?

Comcast spends a good amount (billions a year) in new infrastructure and content. That split is about 50/50 right now. You should listen into their quarterly investor calls. They are fascinating to hear where the company is heading and what they are spending money on.

Sorry you are suffering. I am not. Please leave me out of your ridiculous collective statements in the future. This bowls for you blade...

  4. We officially have a corporatist on our hands. SAD. You think the government isn't run by the corporations. SO SAD.

  5. You assume too much when you assume to know what I think.

I’m no corporatist. I’m a libertarian/an-cap. I’d love to see a reduction in size and scope of government across the board. I’d settle for a Republic that strictly adheres to its constitution however.

    I’d rather be a corporatist than a socialist/communist

  6. Well I have good news for you then. Corporations run our government. You win.

  7. I didn’t realize I was in a competition.

Good to see despite the roll back of NN, your internet still works just like before.

  8. Crony capitalism is what you're fighting for. So yes, you're winning. For now.

I bet you think your point about my internet working fine is strong? Wrong. I have one choice for service. I have a 40 mbps plan, but never test above 15. Customer service is a joke. Terrible. Now they have even more control. SAD.

  9. ^^^Does that address the ability of ISPs to throttle traffic of specific sites? Major point to address don'tcha think?

  10. The free market will address that gw. No need for your precious overlords to oversee something they know nothing about. My internet has gotten faster and cheaper since net neutrality was axed. Your false narrative has failed to develop and your predictions are no where near reality. The internet is far better off without government intervention, any fool can see this.

  11. you forgot to add comcast, verizon, at&t, sprint, disney. But they're fighting FOR your memeboi. Sword cuts both ways homie.

  12. What's Verizon done since nn? Doubled my speeds and eliminated data packaging..... gotta keep that market share in the free market by continuing to offer more to us consumers. I couldn't be happier if I had 2 dicks.

  13. What's your monthly bill? What kind of data rate you average? Unfortunately, because of the telecom laws pushed by the industry giants, Verizon does not offer their service in my area. Century Link has the phone, Comcast controls the cable. That's it.

  14. Lol pushed by the industry giants and enforced by state force..... the free markets gw, the free markets are trying it's best to overcome state intervention. Eventually it will always win out. Government always tries to fight it though. Big business relies on the state to enforce monopoly laws it's not the business fault.
Just look at the mmj laws that are sweeping the country. Cannabis has been rapidly dropping in price as it has been leaving the black market. I went from getting 3600 a lb to 500 in just a few years due to market forces. Enter government and its greedy hands with all the laws and regulations and now I'm getting 2-3x higher in 6 months. This my be good for me but bad for consumers, it plainly illustrates how government intervention hurts the consumer and helps the producer so the government can ascertain more tax revenue. This is exactly what is happening all around you. Free market prices are being inflated by government intervention and people want more government intervention as a fix? I dont get it.

I pay somewhere around 250.00 a month for a few phones with unlimited data. Last night I checked my speeds and they were 26mb downloads and 2.4 uploads. That was as high as I've seen I'm probably hovering around 8mb average. Which is 24x faster than last year and all for cheaper than before. I would pay double if it helped push the technology and availability in my area.
