  4. General Command of the Kurdish forces of People’s Protection Units (YPG) said Saturday that the Syrian Baath-regime hostile statements against the Kurds reflect the same speech of the Turkish government, and accused Damascus of carrying out massacres against civilians.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on Friday released a statement calling the Kurdish Asayish security force in Syria a “military wing of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK)”.

In the meantime, the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told reporters in Istanbul that the Syrian regime finally understood that the Kurds are “a threat”.

“This is a new situation… It is clear that the [Assad] regime has understood the structure Kurds are trying to form in the north (of Syria) has started to become a threat for Syria too,” Yildirim told foreign correspondents in Istanbul, AFP reported.

The YPG said in a public statement that the ‘hopeless Baathist Syrian regime is distorting the facts and speak the logic of the Turkish state, by describing us as an extension of other parties of Kurdistan, while being aware of our independence,” the YPG said.

The YPG also said the regime tried to open another fighting front against the Kurds, while the YPG and allied Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were busy fighting ISIS in Shaddadi and Manbij.

“It [regime] revealed its true face in hostility with the different components of the region. But we will not let these actions to happen without a deterrent response. We call on all sides to show and announce their positions against the massacres committed by Syrian regime in the city of Hasakah, similar to elsewhere in Syria,” the YPG said.

“We in the People’s Protection Units (YPG), as we liberated the region from Al-Nusra [Syria’s al-Qaeda] and Daesh [ISIS], we will secure it from the terror of the Syrian regime as well,” the Kurdish military leadership said.

“If we the YPG have so far avoided severe response to regime’s repeated, provocative aggressions against the people, it was first in order to maintain the security of civilians and second to prioritize the fight against Daesh. But regime actions in this manner have gone further to a degree that could no longer be tolerated.”

The YPG said regime forces targeted residential neighborhoods, and civilian targets. “Civilian areas were indiscriminately struck by regime forces deploying warplanes and heavy artillery – causing dozens of civilian casualties and destroying their houses over their heads,” the YPG said.

“From here, we in the YPG call upon our people, the Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and Armenians, to support their legitimate units of the YPG/YPJ, Asayish and Social Protection Forces – to stand united against the terror of the regime and safeguard the region,” the YPG stated.

  6. Funny how Turkey always says they're going to wipe out terror groups but never actually says IS, and always has a direct focus on Kurds.

  11. They deserve to have their own state, the lands which are populated by the Kurds, which was supposed to be Kurdistan is rightfully theirs. The behaviour of Turkey is disgraceful.

Every ethnic group should have their own country.

  12. Turkey has officially entered the Syrian civil war this week in an attempt to block the Kurdish-led, US-backed SDF from liberating Northern Syria. Turkey managed to take the Syrian border town of Jarablus from IS in a few hours. Strange how every other town taken from IS involved intense fighting and mining of towns upon retreat, but Turkey takes town without a fight and Jarablus was essentially a ghost town, something that hasn't happened before. It is clear Turkey gave IS a heads up to block this strategic town from being liberated by Kurdish forces.

IS controlled the border town of Jarablus for about 2 years, yet Turkey did nothing. Once it is clear Kurds are closing in to take the town, Turkey steps in. Strange huh?
