Hello fellow blades, I just wanted to start a topic on Self-Awareness aka having Intrapersonal intelligence on why is very important. So sit back, relax and get ready for some enlightenment. From the article: The Importance of Self-Awareness | Sheer Balance
this happened to me after the homeless thing...it was actually pretty scary to self-reflect, and spent many days crying. I analyzed all my faults, and unfortunately didn't really see any good in me. It was a shitty time in my life, but yes, it made me a much better person. It kind of fueled my work with Santa... good thread Shaddy
Glad it helped you out Sanda, self reflection or formerly known being introspective could also led to rational decision that you want to make or where you want your life to lead at, challenge your ideas, beliefs in return of a new unbiased set, keep control of your emotions rather then letting them take control of you, etc. Bump for more blades to read.
On a related note, to those looking to advance a fair bit down the path to enlightenment, I would recommend reading a book called Mistakes Were Made, But Not By Me. There is so much value in understanding why we think the way we do, what biases and other mechanisms we possess, and how these interact and interfere with logic. That book will help you realize just how necessarily flawed our own self-awareness and self-perception are, and what can be done about it.
Im bumping this because everyone should be reading it. ey yo OP is it possible to be "too self aware"? i answered yes to the majority of the questions that were posed, and a lot of them really describe how i operate among other people... for example, the question about listening, i find that many people come to me for help with their problems. most of the time they just talk to me about the stuff thats going on with them, and then i will usually just say a few things to them and its like a lightbulb will go off and they can almost see themselves out of there problems...
When people come to you, it means they're looking for a interpretation on how to solve their problem aka interpersonal skills. The only negative is if your over thinking about things that shouldn't matter like something trivial for example. Being Self-Aware can help solve inner issues that your trying to get rid off.
hmm i can dig that. but im still quite confused about this self-aware stuff. Im just having a hard time putting it into words...
Ok I feel that I am a fairly self aware person. But for some reason the people who I spend time with seem to view that in a negative fashion. One of them said my biggest problem is that I think everyone is my friend... Like what the fuck
Maybe you're a people person or necessarily don't have douche qualities, this can lead to a career of being a peer mediator, social worker, guidance counselor, psychologist, etc. If you're not looking for validation from other people then it shouldn't be a bad thing.
