the grateful dead over rated?

  1. i know i'll probably get bashed for this but here it goes ........the grateful dead was a good band, but not a great band, like floyd, zeppelin, ect.
and as far as phish, sorry no, they are just another knock off band like darkstar placed there to give aging dead heads and new wanna be deadheads (kids who like the deadhead lifestyle but were born 30 years to late) something to do.

while the dead had some good songs, their greatness comes from the live show experiance and not the actual music, this is proved by lack of radio play even back in the day when they were touring and suposedly popular, and it wasn't because of obsene lyrics or political statement or because they were cutting edge anti establishment, it was becsause they really wern't that good, they were a glorified garage band. i know its cool to say you like the dead, or your a dead head but comeon, how many people actually listen to the dead.hell most people(i didnt say all)couldnt even name 10 songs they did eccept for casey jones and trucking.
as i said i know your gonna bash me on it but it had to be said....................peace

  2. That's your opinion man, feel free to think whatever you want.

I like the dead personally, and I also like phish....

  3. i know its my oppinion i wrote iet. i just want to see who else agrees with me and to debate those who dont..................peace

  4. As of yet I've not expanded my music education to include the Dead, but it looks like its time to isohunt Mr. Garcia.

  5. I agree, not a great band, but it was the absolute best show to see live,at least through my pinhead pupils.A few commercial tunes made it to the airwaves, the average person wasn't getting into the depth of the band.

  6. i agree one hundred % i spent many a night trippin at a dead show, but it was more of a party and not so much about the band, fuck it could have been any band playing, the show was actually fun because of the people, the crowd, the drugs, it was a party..........................................peace

  7. Download/buy 'Aoxomoxoa', best studio album IMO.

Their live albums are fantastic, I need more tbh. Only have 'Live dead ('69)' and 'Reckoning'

  8. you are a fan and they do have a a very faithfull following who will defend them no matter what and i can understand that. but that dont make the band great.................peace

  9. And you saying that they aren't that good doesn't make them not that good. It is all opinion. As for me, I like the dead. Do I think they are the best? Nope. They certainly deserve some credit for what they did for the genre and the people they changed.

  10. I think the Dead are just as good as Pink Floyd and Zeppelin. It's futile to even compare the three bands though because they are totally different from one another.

Led Zeppelin is more of a blues rock band. A lot of their song lyrics come from old blues songs.

Pink Floyd is more of an experimental band, I'd say. They love to toy around with noises in their songs, and have a lot of concept albums. I saw Roger Waters this previous summer, he was great.

The Grateful Dead is a hippy jam band. Their style of guitar and bass playing is very different from the above mentioned as they like to noodle around and have a good time.

    I love classic rock.:smoke:

  11. See I'd have thought that would make them a good band! If a band has a following then they obviously must be doing something right.

  12. N Sync? Backstreet Boys?

  13. Yes. I don't personally like them, or consider them 'good', but they are liked by too many people for me to outright deem them a poor band. I don't like them but that doesn't mean much apart from to me. Get me?

  14. It seems you feel the Music Hall section is over rated, too...

  15. But it was the Grateful Dead. And you could not be a true fan if you're saying it would have been the same without them. Listen to as little as the first thirty seconds of the first song of this show and tell me the Dead was not a tight band.

  16. exactly, its just my oppinion, no right or wrong. one question who did they change an how? weather you relize it or not they were like any other corporate entity. they were in it for the money, they didn't care about the fan except that you went and spent money. when jerry garcia died, his kids came out with a statment thanking all the dead heads for following the band all those years and for putting them all thru school. this mythical romanticising train of thought that people get about bands (not just the dead) drives me nutz. when they start out its cause its fun to be in a band, but it turns into a buissness like anything else. they still might enjhoy the attention and all, but aint it all kinda self serving.............................peace

  17. Hell no dude. The Grateful Dead is one of my favorite bands and their type of music isnt even what Im really into. Their songs have that curiousity that makes you listen to every single sound and word.

The best when youre about to spark that bowl of haze :smoke:

  18. a good band yes a great band no............................peace

  19. Bring something new to the debate, you can't just keep reciting your thesis statement and then saying "................peace" like it's the final word and you're outta here.

  20. To me, Led Zeppelin is sick overrated. Fuck Stairway to Heaven...:hello:
