Heya all, Ive been lookin for some advice on my plant that is on day 21 of flower. Starting the last week lower leaves in the cannopy had starting getting brown dots and it has lead to the edges of old leaves completely turning brown. I have sort of tried to self diagnose it but would really really like to hear some other opinions. Plants are under a 400 watt hps, the middle plant, herojuana, is doing the worst. I started to think that it could possibly be a calcium/magnesium deficiency. Im worried however that I miss diagnosed this and one or the other could just be locked out because im using tap water. My pH has consistently been between 5.5 and 6.2. Ive been using soul synthetics bloom by aurora. To attempt to fix the problem I: Bought cal-mag plus Added Some h2o2 (not really to fix the problem) I flushed with pHed water for a couple of hours, its using a drip system In the reservoir now: Reservoir: ~17 mL per gallon Soul Synthetics Bloom ~3 mL per gallon Hydrogen Peroxide (added) ~6 mL per gallon Cal Mag plus (didnt have exact amount for hydro, just ppm. So used a lil higher than soil) (added) ~5.7 pH ~970 ppm Also had some sugar daddy and bud swell that I wanted to add but am not sure if I should wait to see signs of improvement(what are the signs of improvement??!) It could be, but if the tap water im using is too hard and has too much calcium in it wouldnt it appear the same and the cal/mag would definitely do no good? Strange thing was that my neighbor who grows as well seemed to have the same problem.
Your tap water may be the culprit. From what I've researched those spots are caused by calcium lock-out due to excessive magnesium. Your other plants seem to be coping better with the high magnesium level but the herojuana isn't. Stop using the cal/mag and slowly introduce a "purer" water source to your res until the spots stop forming. So, you will be running a mix of tap and, say distilled? I'm just using what little logic I've got here. Hopefully a more experienced grower can offer their opinion.
Alright, ill definitely give that a try. I'm a little skeptical because it didnt happen in my last grows (soil), and also I filled the res all the way which is a decent chunk of money haha. I tried to look up water tests from the city im from but couldnt seem to find any regarding the hardness of the water. This might be a little noob too but where would I even get distilled water?! Also how long will it take to know whether or not the cal-mag failed
I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction so if no one else chimes in you may want to give the cal/mag a chance to work because those spots could be from just a calcium deficiency but with your neighbor having the same problem it leads me to believe that it is calcium lock-out.
I cant find the reports for my city either.. I thought they would be easy to find but its a mystery to me also. distilled water.. from any grocery store.. kroger,walmart.. even special home depot lol
I've never grown hydro so I don't know how long changes take effect. I'd guess 3-4 days with the cal/mag. Distilled water is found at the grocery or walmart and usually has a ph of around 6.
Yeah I ended up finding some stats on hardness but im pretty sure I'd need a botany professor to have any idea what it means. like 47mg of calcium per liter? Ohh yeah, tap water around 50 ppm
If it didn't happen in your soil grow then maybe it is just a deficiency and not a lock-out considering most bagged soils have lime added. Hydro promotes faster growth which should require stronger nutrients? What grow medium is your neighbor using?
exact same as mine. He messed up tho and was using canna coco nutes tho and didnt switch to the canna flora until 5 and a half weeks into flowering. So I really have no idea and am lost
You're not lost. Purchasing the cal/mag was the correct move. Give it a few days, four at most, and you'll be giving findme some rep. for his diagnosis.
I would up the ph to about 6.0 and keep it there even if you have to adjust every day. 5.5 to 6.2 is a large swing. This way your are in the middle range for nutrient uptake. Also is this the same strain you grew in dirt?
