The doors Oedipal complex

  1. So I'm wondering, what was up with that? If your not familiar, in The doors' song "the end", sam Morrison starts telling a story which goes like this:

"The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and, then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door, and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother, I want to, fuck you"

Now I don't understand how that fits into the rest of the song. Obviously the inspiration is from "Oedipus Rex", he doesn't want to actually fuck his mother. Maybe it's because I'm relatively new to the doors and don't quite understand the music yet, but can anyone else tell me why this is here?

  2. It started off as a simple, short song to say goodbye to a girlfriend. eventually it grew to a 12 minute song.
Finally as a nod to theater he added that to it.
    Jim Morrison.
    :smoke:

  3. cool, thanks. I was thinking that it had some sort of individual significance to the rest of the song and I was missing it.

  4. Sam Morrison? .. Uh Op, don't you mean Jim Morrison?
