The Doc's 2Strain Trial Organic Run: Tangerine Dream & Pineapple Chunk.

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by DrCannaP, Dec 26, 2016.

  1. Hey everyone ... heres another update starting the count for VEG week!

TD is 20 days from sprout
SC is 12 days from sprout
PE2 is 10 days from sprout

The soil I mixed initially (giving us 2.5cf) (total 5.5 parts) was mixed with a ukranian "Sapropel" fertilizer/soil amendment (first and second pics) ....... as described by the retailer:

    "Description:
Sapropel - environmentally friendly fertilizer, contains the most important batteries of plants. Sapropel is rich with organic substances, contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium.

The sapropel-uniform student invisible weight consisting of the organo-mineral substances which are formed of the remains of the plants and animal and mineral and organic impurity brought in reservoirs by water and wind. Sapropelic fertilizers are made from ground deposits of fresh-water reservoirs which were created from the died-off water vegetation, the remains of live organisms, and also particles of soil humus, peat, clay and sand. Sapropelic fertilizers - the irreplaceable product applied to radical improvement of the earth for its recultivation and sanitation. When entering sapropelic fertilizers into the soil, its mechanical structure, water-absorbing and moisture-holding ability improves, for 2-3 years gives increase in the soil a humus and, activates soil processes. Thanks to slow solubility of the substances operating in a product the balanced food of plants is provided with all batteries."

The (2.5 cf) give me 5.5 parts and 5 of those were mixed with 1 part of the Sapropel fertilizer. The remaining 0.5 part leftover of the original mix was layered at the bottom or the 3× 35L pots (keeping in mind the original mix is airier and also bit more concentrated in amendments compared to the final mix and thats why i wanted it at the bottom.)
The 3 pots were filled then with the final mix and 3 herb plants were planted in each pot in preparation for the final transplant in those final pots 2-4 weeks from now.
I kept a little of the final soil and mixed it with 1:1 CocoLoco to veg the little seedlings in it. The seedlings will be potted in their veg pots in the next few days!

Til next update happy growin yall

  2. Quick update
The 3 girls got repotted today, got sprayed with neem oil then went under the 350w COBs LED in the grow tent
The Strawberry Cough and Pineapple Express 2 showed signs of deficiency on their lower first set of true leaves. Hopefully they'll enjoy their new pots
A group shot then selfies of the TD, SC and PE2 respectively

  3. Weekly update (4 days after the repot) and the giros are looking good. I was able to raise the rH from not registering to 55% with a humidifier. Theres a breeze slightly moving the girls to help with the direct heat of the intense light....since the begining the SC (and PE2 a lil) looked a little hungry. I sprinkled a pinch of Happy Frog Tomatoes and Vegetables organic dry fert and tomorrow will try to top the dirt with something to serve as mulch and mist.
Til next update, happy growin yall

  4. So I topped the soil with some alfalfa as mulch ... the lower single blade leaves are rusting on the edges and that seems like Mag def to me. Not sure if coco locks mg in organic too similar to how it does in soiless or if its due to other reasons. Nonetheless the girks are growing just fine and theyre nicely green ... hopefully that def will resolve soon

  5. Quick update:
Sprouted seeds (fenugreek, barley and 7 others) were ground up and 1 teaspoon was applied on top of each pot and watered in.

The girls were also FIMed today:
The TD above the 7th node (junc of 8/9), and the SC and PE2 got it above the 6th node (junc of 7/8).

The SC is catchin up to TD and shes going to surpass her in height. shes got broad leaves too lije the TD. The PE2 on the other got more slender leaves compared to the other 2 but its noticeably shorter. Thinking about repotting them to the final pot soon!

Til next update, happy growing yall

  6. Weekly update:

Today the girls got upgraded to business class and were repotted to their final 35L pots and can now stretch their legs a little hah.
A teaspoon of neem powder was sprinkled around and some alfalfa straws and little dried up alfalfa leaves over it as mulch then watered.

In addition to the 350w COB LED 4000K, the 600w MH light was fired up but dialed down to 75%.
Until next uodate happy growing yall

  7. Quick update:

I know i should let the girls veg for 2 weeks to 3 best to allow the roots to reach out and fill the pots before flipping to 12/12. However, I have many reasons that push me to flip to flowering this weekend (one week after repotting to the final pot). Anyway, all the girls roots reached the bottom of the pots and all pots show roots poking out the bottom holes so maybe its not too too early perhaps hah

From back left clockwise (Tangerine dream, Strawberry cough and Pineapple express #2).

The strawberry cough is stretching and have surpassed the other 2 in height. The pineapple express is the smallest. The girls responded very well to FIMing as ya can see
Til next update happy growing yall

  8. Weekly update:
Today I flipped the lights (600w MH @100%+ 350w COBs LED 4000K color) to 12/12 with the lights being on 6pm to 6am to reduce electricity consumption and also to give me a wider time window to sneak in the groom and tend to the girls (very hard to tend to the groom if the lights on during the day with my job and kids etc) i also sprayed all the plants in the groom witb a pyrethroid insecticide then took the other veggies out and left only the 3 canna pots in the groom.

  9. Day 7 of flowering (weekly) update:
Not much to report since last update.
As we can see in the photo, the PE2 (front) is bushing out a little and picking up her stretching catching up to the back 2. The SC (back right) is still stretching and the TD needs to bush out a little.
One week from today I will top dress the girls with some neem powder and another fert and top that with more mulch (maybe with the fan leaves I'll be defoliating) before I leave the girls for 3 weeks. They will be on autopilot using the blumats self watering carrots that I will install, hooefully, in 3-4 days ... hoping to have enough time to diale them in!
Til next update, happy growing yall

  10. Day 14 of flowering (weekly) update (as of Sat Feb 25th):
I swapped the MH bulb with an HPS and raised the light a little. I did some defoliating removing big leaves that are blocking the light (other smaller leaves will grow and block the light again lol but ill be back in 3 weeks to check).
A 1/4 cup of neem powder and another of half tomatoes and veg fert and half bulb food fert 3-8-8 were sprinkled on top. The leaves i clipped were layered on top as mulch then I watered it in before tweaking the blumats some more.
I topped the res and I just hope the girls do fine on autopilot for the bext 3 weeks before I'm back.

  11. Nothing to report on the girls as I'm still away and wont be back for another 3 days to finally check on the girls and update here.
I purchased this malted barley and the guy at the store said this had the anzymatic power im looking for. I also saw this powdered malt extract and the guy said its pretty much the starches all converted to sugars. I dont know if its used normally in no-till but i figured hey its sugars .. i can sprinkle on top and itll feed my microbiology like molasses would? Thoughts?

  12. Day 35 of flowering (weekly) update:
Ladies and gentlemen....I am happy to report that after 3 weeks of being away while the girls were on their own on autopilot, they have grown very nicely without issues or any disappointments (first 2 pics showing the groom). They're green with no signs of deficiency. If anything, maybe the leaves tips are a liiiiittle burnt. The leaves are very green. Not too green to call it N toxicity though. All thanks go to the amazingly engineered and totally reliable blumats self irrigation austem and the very rich organic soil
The next 4 pictures are single shots of the girls (starting back left and clockwise) 1 of the TD, 2 of SC (the second of which showing the light bleeching that affected the tallest cola which was only a few inches from the HPS tube) then finally the beautiful PE2 which is a petit girl hahah shes the shorty in the group but nice and bushy as you can see. I taised the HPS tube and brought it closer to the center. I also raised the led light a little. I also defoliated a gew leaves from each plant as well as clipping the mint and oregano branches that penetrated up reaching for the light. Some of the canna leaves went on top as mulch. The rest of them were chopped up and applied as mulch on top of my veggies soil that are growing outdoor.
Until next update happy growing yall

  13. Day 42 of flowering (weekly) update:
Not much to report. All is going well for the most part except that the girls are showing signs of little nute burn....maybe ill stop top dressing for now.
Althought the PE2 is a 45 day flowering as per G13 labs, i think it needs at least 2 more weeks
Some pics to show the groom. Full shot then singles of the girls from top left clockwise: TD then SC then PE2
Til next update, happy growing yo

  14. Day 49 of flowering (weekly) update:
Things are going very well for the most part.
I cought a glimpse of spider mites sign on lower leaf of the tangerine dream....i clipped that leaf and checked under it. spider mites for sure. Looked around and found a few leaves affected here and there ... mainlt lower leaves and also lower mint leaves.
The pineapple express 2 should be finishing soon. The buds are frosting for sure now but they need to swell more. This one may be of the small compact nugs phenotype. Will have to wait and see if she swells in the next few days. Shes supposed to be a 45-50 day flowerer.
The Strawberry cough is swelling big freakin time. Those buds are tall and seem to be filling in nicely.
BTW i also see signs of N tox with some eagle claws in the pineapple express lower and outter branches and budsas well as the SC and TD but less. And theres some nute burn too but not too bad!
Finally, I got some bioneem and mixed up a liter in a sprayer and went to town on the girls flooding them and will repeat in 3-4 days .... i am not too worried as the infestation is only starting now and the PE2 should be done soon and out the groom.
Some shots of the whole groom then clockwise from top left TD, SC and PE2. Then 2 bud shots of each of the TD, SC and PE2!
Till next update, enjoy yall and happy growin
