I can't believe a year went by already since my first grow! Started out with all CFL's last August, added a 400 watt HPS in Jan, but only used it for flowering 2 crops (well, really only one full one, went away for the summer, they got cut down early) Got a few grows in between, but this is my OFFICIAL FOURTH, 12 seedlings all from seeds from my first grows pollination 8.22 Paper toweled 16 seeds in a small tupperware 8.24 12 sprouted I put them in small clear cups (with drainage holes) with 1xperlite/1xvermiculite/5xpotting (generic, no nutes) Seedlings popped out of the dirt 8.26! They are lit by two CFL's 24/7 mere inches away and I have 400 watt hps providing indirect lighting I plan on vegging under the hps when theys a bit bigger with cfls for more blue (I have LOTS of blues and LOADS of reds AND the hps) My grow space is pretty big about 6' x 6' x 9 ' tall, 70 - 80 degrees, 50 - 60% RH Yields on the previous grows have been OK, no scale to weigh it but I have been smokin my own since January-ish and have saved more than I spent, esp at $80 - $100 / quarter!
Today they look like this! They need a bit of water at the moment*, but aside from that they are moving along! *Room was closed up for the entire weekend, every drop of O2 evaporated from all the trays and other humidity control stuff I am sure the wilting will be gone in a little while... I am debating about nutes, leaning towards AN Grow A/B or sensi 1, any thoughts? Last year I used MG tomato food way diluted for all the grows, but I think something kinder to them will be better and since I have about a week or so until I need them I wanted to ask for thoughts here. TIA
Coming right along, not sure about the nutes, but seems it would be too early. Wait for one of the pro's to give you that info. Good luck.
~2 weeks is too early for nutes? Just turned off the HPS and added a bunch of CFL's, I think these guys are too young for it...
I would suggest you put them straight into there final pots now. If they get root bound you'll have a serious problem on your hands, and plus, you don't want them too go into shock and stunt there growth and possibly cause Hermes.
I would, but I just ordered a bunch of grow bags that are not here yet... I have way too many plants for flowering under a 400 watt hps (space is at a premium) and larger cups will carry them for another two weeks or so and still fit into a small enough footprint so they all get decent light... Anybody have any opinions on tall pots vs stout (wider) pots? Or is size the only important factor, ie how much soil is more important than how far down the roots can go?
toos toned to remember if ur doing all soil or hydro but if ur doing soil I hear the miracle grow water soluble all purpose plant food for veg is good
Yeah MG All purpose fert is fine. I just decided to go organic so I too use the fox farm three pack. I also have grown from the start under hps. If you want the fastest possible growth, go under the hps. If you are not in a hurry cfl will be fine. I don't think pot shape is as important as the pot volume. Since you only have about 400 watts for 12 plants, flowering them soon might be a good idea.
It's a soil grow and for now I am planning on using MG tomato food for vegging, very diluted of course. Oh and there is one more plant now too! I left a pot from a past grow in there and was using it to provide a bit of humidity and lo and behold a seedling sprouted some past grows have been pollinated, but upside is I have LOTS of seeds, someday when I get really good at this farmer stuff I'll buy some quality seeds Thanks for the info re: pots and such.
I have a single baby atm. It just popped up in a pot in my backyard. I suppose one of the many seeds I toss in the grass landed in a pot... Hopefully I will get the chance to have a real grow like you someday! Id do it now, but im still living with my family lol. Sucks ass being a minor who is looking to grow... But your babies are looking good so far!
thanks! Though I would not aspire to do a grow like me I am still learning after a year of trial and error (more error than anything else!) Fortunately I am old enough that a few months for a grow goes by pretty damn fast! Just a few mortgage payments per grow! AND I still gotta keep my grow hidden, I just happen to be fortunate enough to have a huge extra closet!
Yeah, but its better than a plant in pot in your back yard.. lol But when I leave home I am going to make a 12 plant hydro system. I am pretty good with making stuff, so it wont be too hard for me. Im actually making one soon, but not for herb. Its gonna be a herb look alike that I am going to be splicing to make a new plant, In other words, a practice system for when I make a real grow : )
They's a baker's dozen now, how suiting is THAT? In the second pic - Does the lower leaf curl look like heat stress that has not recovered yet? The one that sprouted in the pot un planned is the top left large pot, it's the healthiest looking one out of all of them (shakemytrees makes a really good point, it's probably best to NOT transplant them 3-4 times!) Still waiting on grow bags but they needed to put in bigger containers... I do not have any ventilation in the room yet, have always used it for flowering only, and those grows were mostly during winter months so temps stayed cooler, now I need to go get some duct work and an exhaust fan to manage temps. The second pic is pretty much what they all look like now, still slightly twisted lower leaves (due to heat stress I assume) but I am keeping the door wide open during the day and switching to CFL's only at night until I get some air circulating (maybe I will have time to do that today) I am thinking a bathroom exhaust fan in the ceiling and an inlet on the wall near the floor Controlled temps are at about 80 and RH is at about 50% (with a mister on constantly, that's the "smoke you can kind of see in the first pic, its water vapor) They have not gotten much nutes yet, maybe a 1/10 first dose and I'll give them a bit more next time they need watering. I am also planning on getting some fox farm locally and putting the 5 in the blue cups into that when the grow bags arrive I opted for 3 and 5 gallon grow bags so I can pack them closer together than I could with 3 or 5 gallon round pots since I really only have a 4x4 grow area under the 400 watt HPS and I can also flower half and keep the rest vegging in another smaller grow room if need be though with my luck I'll only end up with 4 females and space will not be an issue
Added some ventilation! pulling in cool air through 2 8" ducts on the floor and pulling out with an 8" duct in the ceiling .. also got some superthrive and shultz all purpose plant food
