  1. Greetings to all of you fellow blades and a rolling thank you to those of you who have helped me get to the point I am at today. As I stated in other threads I am an oldtimer in enjoying Gods gift to man but an absolute novice and green as they come rook when it comes to growing, but I am diving in headfirst anyway and having a great time doing it. I started with one plant almost 3 months old now followed up by a 2nd plant now close to two months old using bagseeds some saved for a number of years from stuff that was so good it was worthy of keeping the seed or two found in it in case I ever did decide to grow. They will be referred to as 'the UFO's' There is a total of 10 plants 8 of which are still youngsters. Along the way I got the desire to buy some premium seed from the Netherlands and 3 of those are in their infancy. So, here then is the plants:
2 older UFO's one at 3 months the other at 2 months just recently put in the growtent to attempt flowering ( fingers crossed) They are on a 12/12 cycle the oldest my first attempt at LST which seemed to go quite well, the other a "V" cut and just allowed to grow as is. Here is a pic of the two in the tent:
There are 3 other UFO's that are now two weeks old as seen in the next pic Next up are 2 babies known as MB's which are the initials of the guy who gave me the seeds of in his words "some good skunkbud" they are in the next pic. Finally the start of the primos with two of a strain called Herijuana and one described as a cross of Jackberry/NYC Diesel that I have high hopes for. Everything else has been a test to this point to properly raise these last three. These are still in the seedling stage and here are some pics of those

1 400W HPS open light in the tent

3 CFL 100W equiv bulbs ( with more as needed) for vegging outside the tent

  4. So, please let me know your thoughts and opinions. I'm far from being an expert and I kinda think I'm taking on a lot at one time. Right now, Im using the tent for flowering and the rest of the room for vegging but I have the option later of switching the rooms around by moving the 400w light out of the tent and putting a bunch of CFL's in the tent if I need too. Right now the tent is on a 12/12 cycle and the room on an 18/6 cycle. At some point, I'll probably have to look at flowering outside of the tent as already I'm having trouble fitting just two plants in the tent flowering

  5. A few minor problems:
High humidity- that I fixed with a dehumidifier
The tent-- Just too freaking hot inside when its closed up. Just today the new hood arrived with a glass cover and two 6 inch outlets for air flow
The wife wants to kill me-- I can only cure that by presenting a nice fruit of the labor and the expense that is now approaching $500 and growing. :)
Little knats-- I got a spray for them and a spray with a soap solution and they go away...and keep coming back
The seedlings-- I always seem to get the sprout effect with the first set of leaves and then 3 inches of sprout that I try to fix by replanting them. How do you guys get them to start out closer to the ground?

Thats not too bad as far as problems that I can see go, but again, your thought are most helpful and most appreciated.

    Happy growing !

  6. I'm subbed in... the only way I get mine close is when I transplant. I have asked the same question and that is what I've found. I had lights almost on top of them and still had a little bit of stretch, that was Smile, so I'm thinking they need a little stretch in the beginning. I could be way wrong, but that's what I've found

  7. I use CFL bulbs placed no more than 1" from the top of the plants to keep them short and bushy. Daylight spectrum only.

Sounds like you underestimated the need for environment control and you're paying for it. Environment is everything, although 70% humidity isn't really a big deal for now.

I use HotShot NoPest strips to deal with gnats when I get them.

Good luck dude. I'll stick around.

  8. You'll want to use the tent for veg/clone. the girls will be massive when they flower compared to when they are vegging. they will at minimum double in size when you flower them.

I'm saving up for a vented hood for my light myself. temps are just too hot in my tent. 73 degrees outside my tent, 93 degrees in it. I want to drop the temp down to at least 85.

  9. Thanks man you know I appreciate your input

  10. Yeah, I've done it before and that works I guess, just seems like I'm missin something when I see others with short bushy starters, but sometimes they're clones and thats a little different than raising from seed.

  11. ....problem there is as you can see in the first pic, this tent cant hold anything more than 2 plants in it. I got room for growing upward, but with a 20x30 bottom, it just isnt as big as it looks overall, and I'm going to be veggin like 8 plants pretty much at the same time minus any males that show up.

And yeah, I was at a HTG store in person and while they got some great stuff I would have thought the guy would have told me the tent would get too hot with the light and hood he gave me. I expect this vented one to do much better and I can get closer to the plants with it.

  12. That sucks that your tent is too small. I suppose buying another tent is out of the question?

Do you have any idea how much a vented hood will lower your temps? It would be sweet if it brought the temps down to room temp from 1 foot away.

  13. Well closed up its pushin 90 now with the light wide open and the tent shut with a 6 in exhaust running. If I leave it open some its not too bad at 86 or so but I need to be able to shut it when I'm not around. I hope to lower it even 8-10 degrees or so I'd be happy with.

Haha another tent, I'd have to sleep in it too..... :)

  14. Well to update...A fine mess I caused last night when I went to switch the open air hood to the new sealed glass covered hood with the 6in holes at either end to vent with... JFC what a mess....Real simple right? just get the old bulb and socket out and tie it in to the new one right? Right...until after it was done I was trying to attach that corrugated damned sonofabitchin cheapass flex aluminum foil shit to either end of that hood...I'm still steamin over it. The bitch kept tearing like, well, like the cheap aluminum foil that it is. There is very little room left to work with from side to side to begin with and I was trying to leave some extra in it so I could raise the hood up and down like I wanted to and the bitch kept tearin every time I thought I had it finally stretched over the hood which was like tryin to fuck a chicken anyway....( not that I ever tried that mind you) I had to walk away from it and the bitch is still hangin from the exhaust fan like a limp wienie. Man that uncommonly pissed me off....
    Simple shit..... *!&^$* anyway...
Its all good though....good days and bad days..I never expected it to always be easy
Thats todays Mother*&$%#@ update. I still feel like I better not touch anything today, I'm just biting my tongue and counting to 357,000 Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

  15. It will be ok... can u get a hide that's a little bigger? I have never had to vent a light, but I figure go bigger and duct tape it.

Yeah...funny thing is smokey its only a 400W light in a tent thats 63in tall and I feel like I'm fightin hell to try to cool the thing down to a reasonable temp and I didnt really expect that since it aint like I'm not venting it with 2 blowers and a fan already.... I dont know how the heck people use 600 or 1000W ( yeah they have a 1000 watt tent setup) and not burn everything in it.
So yep thats just what I'm gonna do, get it as close as I can to the hood and just tape it with a roll of the ole West Virginia chrome and at least it will carry air through it and do what its supposed to do. I dont mind when things go wrong, I just get bent when its the simple shit that becomes such a biotch
How's Smiles and CJ doin today bud?

  17. CJ is like a bad girlfriend that I can't bring myself to leaving! If I miss a feeding she looks like she will die the next day or so. If I feed every watering she only looks like she's going to half die. If I up her nutes at all she gets burned .... I'm getting new nutes Monday, flushing them both and giving fresh feedings. Thinking fox farms nutes

  18. Its funny, just like kids you try to do whatever is necessary to get them healthy :)

  19. ....Just today, noticing a yellowish spotting on both of my tent plants, while I look into it, if anyone has any ideas as to what its cause may be, here are a few pics, and thanks as always
