The Contraption (DIY Bubbler)

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by Justinjustin, Jan 2, 2007.

  1. Hey, this is the second bubbler I've made, which was dubbed "The Contraption" after nobody knew what to call it... It wasn't quite a bong. There's no choke. It brews chamber bucket-like... But, all in all, it's pretty awesome.

The first one I made was larger... But with salvaged parts... (older garden hose end for bowl... garden hose for all tubing, and tomato sauce jar. (If you were just testing for function without the weed... you could taste it... ew...)

I came up with the idea when I wanted to make something that filtered the smoke with water, but didn't have a glass cutting too... Plus, curved glass would be hard to anchor something in...

So here it is... The Contraption II, it's smaller in size, but has a nicer bowl, and parts... everything's new.

Some changes I made since the first one was that the hose curved TOWARDS the bowl... I didn't really put much thought into that. This time it curves away from it... A girl actually set her hair on fire when she took a hit from it, while it was sitting on the table with duo lighters.

Also, I got a nicer bowl. Bigger (like it needed to be, pftt)

And last but not least, I used a two-piece lid instead of a one-piece lid... Because with one piece all of the parts spin as you tighten the lid... which is very difficult if it's loaded with ICE... and I felt like it could damage some of the parts. So now... this isn't an issue...

The pics should explain it all... It's pretty much air tight, but I used hot glue on the bottom only to make sure it's 100% air tight... If you put it on the top, after a huge session the glue could start to melt.

My only concern with this one is if the tube will melt... I think it will be alright... and it'd take quite a bit to hurt the seal...

I've never seen anything made like this before... and it may help some of you other DIYers out there... Anyways, pics...

  3. niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... very orig. never saw anyone make a bub before...i thought about it once but then got high and used my glass one xD

  4. what a great idea, the mason jar, everything. makes me wanna go make one out of my nice bowl(from broken bong) and some hose haha. the headshop around here sells things like that though, i see them everywhere. they're all pastic and rubber though, come in tons of sizes and colors, with a weak little bowl. yours is much better haha.

  5. Thanks cupcheck and Letmeburn...

And yeah, Canabudz, the best part is the bowl... Just looking at the first picture makes me want to go out and use it... The screen literally couldn't have fit any better... But... I'm going to wait until i go over to a friend's tonight.

  6. lookin fine man, it would be a pleasure to hit that good job!

  7. haha, nice one, id smoke that

  8. just be careful if any of that metal be copper, that shits not too good to smoke out of/inhale vapes.

  9. looks like it might give the ole drinkin through a straw effect

  10. Brass bowl... There is something for the mouth piece that's copper... but it shouldn't even be warming up.

  11. Oh, and used it last night... but we did it on the roof of a school... And there was a little wind, and it was really cold, so it was kind of hard.

Used hot steamy tea in it from Tim Hortons... which turned out pretty good...

Because it was so cold out, and our throats felt raw though, it was kind of harsh on the back of the throat...

Next time it'll be inside and with more liquid, or maybe some ice in it...

I'd like to make a bigger one too. Actually, originally, I was going to make this have 2 or three chambers... either two that filtered it, and one with just ice, or all filtering. Or any combination like that...

    Anyways, cheers.

  12. if u do take on another project like that...post pics cus thats crazy :smoking:

  13. great bubbler man, quick easy and i bet it hits great for its size!

sorry to kinda steal ur thread...
i have a pipe kinda like that, (not finished) instead of having the tube go in the water from the bowl it goes on a spril cfl bulb and the "mouth peice" tube goes on the other end of the fluorescent tube. i emptied a blue gell ice pack in a 200ml beaker. i put the pipe in it so i can put it in the freezer for cold smooth hits that dont degrade the smoke at all.

all i have left to do is find a way to finish cleaning the white powder out of the cfl, water doesnt work and salt only gets the powder on the outside of the sprials... im going to cut a peice of acrylic with holes for the tubes and hot glue it on the beaker so i can have an airtight seal. its gonna be portable to!

kinda high so sorry if it didnt make to much sence

  14. pretty nice for something home made. you should try to turn the down pipe into a difuser some how. maybe put a fitting on the bottom and drill holes in it or put a screen.

  15. the mcguyver toker

  16. Hey man, you try refrigeration coils. They may be copper though... hmm... You'd have to separete it from the bowl or like, find some which aren't copper (they probably are all due it's conductivity, though.)

But basically it's spiralled metal pipe... I've seen it used on beverage cooling machines... where by the time the liquid flows out the end of it, it's completely cold (the coils are either in ice, or some type of refrigerator, or whatever)

Probably run you about 15 bucks at home depot... I saw them right by some of the metal parts I was considering for my device.

Or maybe even coil up some tube, like the clear stuff I'm using. It cost 5 bucks for a whole length of it... 3meters I think

Basically... I doubt you can get all of that dust out, and I bet that's really dangerous for your lungs... It's a neat idea, but I don't know if it's safe... Maybe try soaking it in some kind of solvent... varosal or something? Personally though, I wouldn't take the risk.

So, you're using a jar too?
