[The Church] BluntDewd's second grow

Discussion in 'Hydroponic Grow Journals' started by BluntDewd, Oct 2, 2012.

  1. Hi! I made a grow a while back in a pc case. I've learned some things although the end result was not what I wanted, I still learned a lot.
I've chosen "The Church" for this grow: The Church (by Green House Seeds) :: SeedFinder :: Strain Info

This time I'm choosing Deep Water Culture and a closet w/ a 50 liter (13.2 galons), a air pump and two airstones.
I'm starting w/ about 70w of CFL's for vegging and two pc fans, but I should upgrade when it goes to flowering
This is Day 1 of the grow: (today)
    how it looks:

  2. it looks like you have your netpot in the water upto the rockwool ,do you ?
the rockwool look to wet,is it ?
keep the netpot 1/2 inch above the water.
do you have nutes in the water ?
    middy

  3. The rockwool is not completly submerged into the water and there are no nutes in it :)

    Also, I've added some mylar

  4. keep the net pot 1/2 inch out of the water, the bubbles bursting on the surface will keep the bottom inch or so wet, just let the rockwool dry up a little bit i think but it is hard to tell from pics , is it wet or damp ?.
water from the to untill the roots come through.

i normaly let the roots come through the bottom of the rockwool around an inch before putting them into the buckets.

what temp is your res ? 68 is the sweet spot but with a nice clean res with seedlings in, i would up the temps to around 72, seedlings like it a bit warmer, but so do the bad things that you don´t want in your res, so keep a close eye on the water for any rapid change in ph.

  5. I've lifted up the netpot a little bit now. The temperature is usually at 23C (73F).

  6. Looking good!

  7. Decrease the water level instead of raising the pot, that's my suggestion.

  8. i found that soil drainage pipe fits perfect around my net pots, i cut a bit 2,5 cm wide, great for holding my foil to the buckets and it has given me a few more liters of water space, so its a bonus ;).

try and get the res temp down if you can 20c/68f :)

  9. Thanks middy.

The temperature is at 23ºC. The only way i can lower my temperature is by increasing the distance from the lights, and I don't have the amount of lumens I want yet. Still waiting for the end of the month to buy more lights.

The pH is a hard thing to control in a 50 liter (13 galons) bucket, everyday it goes up to 7, but I try to keep it under 6. Also I think I will run out of pH down (solid solution) before harvest.
I've added nutes for 40 liters of water.

  10. something isnt right then.. in a larger container the ph should be more stable. Are your PPM going down as your Ph goes up?

  11. By res temp i believe Middy was referring to the reservatory, as in water temperature, and i believe there may be a confusion with your communication because I haven't seen a water thermometer.

  12. The res temp (taken w/ pH meter) is at a stable 21ºC. The temperature that I was giving was from the termometer close to the plant.
The pH is much more stable now, it goes up a average of 0.1 a day.
