ok everyone so ive got my two babies in a nice little starter grow box wit some cfls but im going to bump up to a larger setup very soon and im very interested in scrog but ive read everything and i still dont get it it seems that people are just taking their plants and putting them in small ass pots and pushing them close together. Then letting them grow normally and there is just a screen somewhere and they hit the screen but then idk what happens. Can someone explain this method in the most simple way as if i was semi retarded please
So you have a main stalk, and from the main stalk branches come off of them creating bud sites. By placing a screen above the plant when it is short you will force the plant to grow horizontally thereby increasing the availability of light to the lower branches. The plant grows up through the screen towards the light. Then you bend the branches back under a new square in the screen. This keeps the plant a uniform height and can fully utilize the square footage of a room, and the lumens from lower wattage bulbs that don't have the casting power to reach the lower bud sites.
But what would make the plant grow vertically through the screen rather then the screen stopping it and its just overgrowing below the screen and what special preparations do i need to make to the plant for a scrog grow
you let em grow to the screen and then move the tops to a new hole. This lets side growth get more light and thinks it's a top so plant sends more "power" to grow the area. The part I'm confused on is ... Do you pull the whole stem back under and out of the screen and move out to side and a new hole or.. Pull top down through a new hole out to side and up a new, weaving over under with the screen?
No. You're not weaving anything. The plant grows up because that's what plants do. If you've never grown a plant before then you should try just growing first so you can see how the plant produces new growth. You wait for the branch to be 2" to 3" above the screen, then you bend it back under the screen into an adjacent hole. There are plenty of guides and stickies. The information is all available for you. My guess here is that you're so new to growing you're just unfamiliar with how MJ grows and that's your confusion. Scrogging makes perfect sense once you get it.
so i plan on just doing a plan grow to see how MJ grows before i try any tatics thanks for all your help
If you were going to try something on your first go I'd suggest LST. Low Stress Training is used to accomplish the same thing as a scrog but with less hardware. Essentially all you do is tie a string a few inches from the top of the plant and connect it to a lower part on the planter (a hole or a screw to tie it off to). You use the string to pull the main stalk downwards, which causes it to bend, and allows more light to reach the lower branches. You can also tie down the branches to help them grow outwards a little more. Look into LST around here, that might be more your bag of tea, it's like "Intro to Scrogging 101"
Wouldnt it just be easier to place 6 cfls 2 on top and 2 on each side so it grows outwards as well as upwards?
Mounting CFLs on the side of the plant can be difficult for many growers depending on their setup. How hard is it to use a string??? LST gives you control, while placing the lights around the plant will just give you a bush.
ok so fixed my box now got a intake at bottom, exhaust at the top both 120 mm fans the case is a normal dell mid atx case and i got 4 23 watt cfl 6500k daylight bulbs on top. this box is only to start my baby plants until i move into larger box so i got about 6 inches of grow room in this little box from pot to light which is a bit small but will work for my new little seedlings so i will try a bit of lst when i move the babies into their larger home but for now im hoping my first grow doesnt end terribly
