^^^^^ I agree with what you're saying. Reggae and DUB is very positive music and it's also inspirational. There's a meaning to it! It's not just empty love songs or something like that. The music has power...there's a belief in it, too.....it's supposed to make you want to better yourself....to not accept injustice...etc... So, yeah.....when I'm down and out, some reggae can pick me up!!!
ohh lawd lol.... those white reggae bands that sing in fake patois accents always remind me of weird al... then I found this.. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztCrH4ZwySc]"Weird Al" Yankovic: In 3-D - Buy Me A Condo - YouTube[/ame] can't stop laughing
I can only think of a couple white bands that play reggae. I'm not sure that is really relevant. So, here's Big Mountain....and UB40...the sound is obviously different, tho Big Mountain ~ I Love Your Way Big Mountain Baby I Love Your Way - YouTube UB40 ~ Kingston Town UB40- Kingston Town - YouTube
sorry coughee just got a new glass piece, so haven't been posting as much. here's a gem i found recently: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfuTa52-BP8]Mighty Three's - Rasta Business Dub - YouTube[/ame] and as to the conversation: personally I think reggae has one of the most fully worked out philosophies of any musical style. chant down babylon, keep your faith in jah, right? all about resisting the tide of modernization and industrialization. here's another on that vague theme: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dO8QfM6wvQ]Burning Spear - Cultivation [Man in the Hills (Dub)] - YouTube[/ame] also, if you guys like my selections, my radio show is streaming tonight from 8-10pm. (pacific time) @ KSKQ Ashland Oregon click streaming. I just got a buttload of new reggae vinyl, so I would be thrilled if you'd care to listen.
nah it isn't relevant which is why I haven't said the things I usually say when some of these groups pop up in reggae threads Just thought the weird al was funny so I gave a backdrop as to why I was posting it since it was.... weird.. but to answer coughee19's question anyway, basically any American reggae groups. I'll be honest though, really no idea what all these groups sound like or sing about since I've never made it more than a few seconds into a song before I killed it....
you owe me 10 bux. who's cricket? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg9SYIkwzNg]Black Uhuru - What Is Life [Oringinal mix] - YouTube[/ame]
hah.. I got yuh if you come around the NYC area He is a reggae singer and friend of mine living in Ashland. I think on stage he is 'Cricket and the Cultivators' or the Cultivators, not certain, was looking em up and see him/them going by the two names. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivUq5bp_S0A[/ame] Loved this tune years ago (still do), had it on one of my fav mix tapes of all time (cassette tape) Song came into my head one day after not hearing it for years so I went and got the song..
found em' but haven't seen em play before. they sound great though. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP4GQ5qaXKM]Cricket and the CULTIVATORS - YouTube[/ame] but where they're playing is a natural hot springs that I go to all the time. lol
yeah I enjoy the few songs I've heard. don't confuse him with the Swedish artiste who stole his name though. The Swedish guy has lots of shit on youtube I was just seeing.
Thank you all for making this thread a success at first i was like damn i hope this doesnt go to shit but it didnt! So thanks again. As for thee conversation that was started by coughee 19: I agree with you 100% "celebrities" making music now a days dont even write their own lyrics or have any control of it its so pathetic. It makes me laugh when their like i worked so hard for this album but didnt really contribute anything except for their voice and money. And ontop of that theyre thee money right? So why thee hell are they not trying to use their money with a purpose instead on blowing on material things that you cant even take beyond thee grave. If not that then atleast have thee decency to give a positive influence in your music instead of making unrealistic standards and mind fucking those whose mentality isnt thee strongest or people who arent in thee best state of mind and need to be healed by somebodies words in music not put down more. On a serious note i just feel like so many people hate eachother to thee point where they dont even appreciate what they see in thee mirror. Love is really scarce and only a few know thee magnitude of power of just being kind to your fellow brothers and sisters. But we first we really need to love ourselves guys and accept what we see in thee mirror flaws and all. Peace and love
lol i kno this is hella late...but i play funk, reggae, salsa, samba, hip hop, R&B, whatever...as long as its not square. i like anything with good rhythm

I remember seeing you in a rastafari thread a while back....I think this is relevant here Bob Marley ~ War [live] bob marley war no more trouble - YouTube Until the philosophy which hold one race Superior and another inferior Is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned Well Everywhere is war, this here war And until there's no longer first class Nor second class citizens of any nation Until the colour of a man's skin Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes I've got to say war And until the basic human rights are equally Guaranteed to all, without regard to race This here war 'Cause until that day The dream of lasting peace, world citizenship And the Rule of international morality Will remain in but a fleeting illusion To be persued, but never attained Well everywhere is war, this here war War in the east, war in the west War up north, war down south This here war, rumors of war And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique, South Africa, yeah sub-human bondage Has been toppled, utterly downstroyed Well, everywhere is war, This here war War in the east, war in the west War up north, war down south This here war, rumors of war And until that day, the African continent Will not know peace, we Africans will fight We find it necessary and we know we shall win We are confident in Jah victory Of good over evil, good over evil, good over evil Good over evil, good over evil, good over evil Well everywhere is war
