The best lyricists

  1. I'm just wondering who you think is the best lyricist whether it's rock or rap or any other genre. Also try to post some examples and things along those lines. I want to start writing music lyrics so im looking for some inspiration and motivation.

  2. rap wise def have to check

    Nas

    Pac

    Rakim

    Big Daddy Kane

    Black Thought

those 5 right there innovated so many things. and they could touch on a wide variety of topics.

  3. Replace pac with Chuck D and you have a solid list. 2pac's lyrics were shallow if you actually get down to it.

OP if you want another perspective look no further than Bob Dylan. He is simply the greatest.

  4. Robin Williamson from Incredible String Band and Arthur Lee from Love are the two greatest in my honest opinion.

But you can't look past some of the classics like Lennon, Bowie and Morrison.

  5. blackstar
    2pac
    wu tang
    krs one

  6. I never said Pac was a wordsmith but if you can sit here and say with a straight face his words havent touched millions, youd be lying.

He blended styles and topics masterfully.

  7. Neil Peart of Rush.

  8. Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

I'm the same as I was when I was 6 years old
And oh my God I feel so damn old
    I don't really feel anything
On a plane, I can see the tiny lights below
And oh my God, they look so alone
    Do they really feel anything?
Oh my God, I've gotta gotta gotta gotta move on
Where do you move when what you're moving from
    Is yourself?
The universe works on a math equation
that never even ever really even ends in the end
    Infinity spirals out creation
We're on the tip of its tongue, and it is saying
We ain't sure where you stand
You ain't machines and you ain't land
And the plants and the animals, they are linked
And the plants and the animals eat each other
Oh my God and oh my cat
I told my Dad what I need
Well I know what I have and want
    But I don't know what I need
Well, he said he said he said he said
    "Where we're going I'm dead."
