The "Bad Cop" thread. A compilation and discussion.

  1. So, I see lots of different posts that are rightfully bringing the spotlight on the actions of the police. I see them all over, in different forums, with countless opinions. So I got the idea to start a single thread that might serve as a collection point and forum for some of these stories and discussion of them. I am a very level-headed person who would like to see CIVILIZED conversation because I believe that is the only way to change. I play devil's advocate alot and have a decent amount of insight into the LEO world so while I won't defend abhorrent actions, I will call for a time-out to investigate and get the facts before crucifying someone. Just as we wouldn't want a headline popping up saying "MMJ card-holder arrested for child porn!". Not all, as a matter of fact I would say the rate is lower than non-smoker's, smokers are pedophiles, but that's what you'll hear in the media. It's called sensationalism.

So, feel free to post the bad cops here. If they are truly bad, I'll help you crucify them, but imho, the majority are good people.

  2. Ok Kylesa, I checked the thread and read the first 3 stories in the opening post. Story #1) The mentally ill man. Officers used what is accepted as less-than-lethal force to stop a man from burning down a house. They tazed him once with no effect. They could've tried spray, but if a tazer doesn't do the job, spray probably won't either. Seems like an unfortunate situation that was handled the best it could've been to me.

#2) The dirty cops. Well, they were. Just like there are dirty bankers, Dr's, pharmacists, etc. At least they were investigated and stopped.

#3) Well, he deserves to rot in jail(or my personal opinion is that if you are sentenced to life without parole, you should be executed. You were put there to keep you out of society. Why pay to babysit?

I realize this will be a difficult thread to maintain sometimes and I fully expect to get enough stories that I literally won't be able to review them all, but I feel it's the right thing to do. I get sick of the attitude of "Fuck all of a group for the actions of a few."

  3. Too many stories.

Subscribed and will come back to this thread later when I have time and am not so tired.

  4. took some tackles on asphault.. over nothing, just raising my hands up and turning around to show there was nothing.. had my head smashed into linoleum for not blowing into the breathalizer hard enough..

  5. Sorry to hear sky. Yes, there are some bad ones(seems like it is departments more than individual officers to me).

  7. The problem with cops is much the same as the problem with politicians.

What you want ideally is people who want to serve for the betterment of society. What you get is often people who want to exercise power, or just seek the profession due to the thrill of it. Beeing a cop do require a different personality type than your average accountant for example.

And though I am sure *some* cops go into it for idealistic reasons, I think most do so just for the sense of power they gain from it.

That said, they do provide a vital service. The problem is not so much the cops themselves, but rather the politicians who makes the laws the cops must follow up on.

Who here would have a problem with a police force, that followed up on crimes of violence, fraud and terror? Presumably none.

But when cops need to chase down people who, like us, enjoy a bit of all-natural relaxation, and the, erm, industry that follows, just because some holier-than-thou politicians says so, then yes, our contempt for law-enforcement in general is warranted, as it targets the wrong people.

We need law-enforcement to prevent people doing bad to others, not for people minding their own business. That is just moralistic bullshit and helps no-one. And is quite expensive to boot.

  8. Excellent insight Zy. Unfortunately not all of us have that attitude.

  9. Uhm, very intellectual opinion.

  10. I haven't even read the thread (will later) but I will just say that most cops are good. I've had my fair share of run-ins and the majority of them were good. The only time it was bad was when I went around a "road closed" sign and got pulled over. My mom was even about to back talk the cop lol.

  11. anyone who WANTS to be a cop in my opinion has issues to begin with. Its one of the worst jobs to have, really fucks with your relationships. You dont need to be intelligent to be a cop, and often thats the case with most of them. They also have ego issues and like to behave like they are in the military....for every 1 good cop their is 100 bad cops.

It sounds more like you just have a vendetta against cops.

Cops join for many reasons, and they all don't have issues. Some do it because their family is in it, and others truly want to help people.

Though if they want to help and be a real man, they should join the fire department :p

    RODNEY KING LIVES ON

    FUCK THE POLICE MY BROTHERS!

  14. Rodney would've had fun with the stun guns they use today:D And it would've just been another guy getting arrested.

  15. I guess Reginald Denny evened the score?:p

  16. With out getting to deep, I was in the field for a while and those are the conclusions I made while doing so.

  17. IMO a lot of cops were those tough kids who were a bully back in school and never outgrew it. Then they go into a profession as an adult that allows them to continue to bully people and have power of the normal people. OFC there are good idealistic cops out there who really do want to "protect and serve" and not go stomp on some teenagers.
