Anyone a fan of the legandary Roots Reggae Band The Abyssinians? I saw them last night (and last week at Reggae Rising) and they still blow my mind. They have so many classic songs: Meditation, Satta Massagana, Forward Unto Zion, There Is No End, Peculiar Number, I could go on and on. I strongly recommend them to anyone into Reggae. I've been surprised by how many Reggae "fans" i've talked to who have no idea who this band is or the impact they've had on Reggae Music. Must have Albums: Satta Massagana, Foward, and Arise.
I really enjoy reggae, but I do have to admit I don't know that much about the current scene. Care to enlighten me?
The Abyssinians aren't big in the modern reggae scene, but are one of the most influential and important Reggae bands ever. Lead by 3 male vocalists, they have rich harmonies and great messages in their songs. Many of their tunes (or "riddims") are sampled by countless Reggae/Dancehall artists today. They don't get as much credit as they deserve, but their impact on Reggae is long lasting. You should pick up Satta Massagana, then branch out from there. Going by our generally overlapping tastes in music, I think you'll really dig them.
