So I'm headed to Thailand and southeast Asia for the next few months (until funds run out!). Any blades been there before and have any suggestions? I'm planning on visiting Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia and probably Japan at the end of the trip. The only thing is I'm going to be spending the first week and a half in Bangkok by myself until the rest of my travel party shows up. Anyone have any ideas for the solo traveller? Like is there a good place to go or stay to meet people? Or things that I should see or do there? Just thought I'd ask before my trip. Advice from another female traveller would rock. Are their certain clothes I should avoid wearing? Should I bring a fake wedding ring? (that sort of thing) It seems to me like stoner advice > lonely planet advice.
dont get pick pocketed and dont get raped. and use sun screen and bring bug spray. and dont get raped. and you wont be able to find weed unless you know people there or feel like going to prison. and dont get raped.
Watch your shit. My ex's mate went there and had his passport and money etc stolen and he was completely screwed. This is probably less likely to happen to you seeing as it was a hooker that did it and I'm guessing that's not what you'll be going for But still...
Yea I think I'll be passing on the hookers. Hmm bottom line so far seems to be don't get robbed and don't get raped. This trip sounds exciting already! I think I'm going to be high-tailing it for the coast pretty soon after I get into Bangkok so hopefully it's more chill there. What do you have against Alberta?
I'm friend with a family that there parents are orginally from Thailand. The food, besides the obvious, is AWESOME. Scenerey is great. I'd recommend seeing the Temple's there where the monks stay. People will see you as a Canadian/American so always remember that. But that shouldnt be a problem as long as you stay in safe parts. Goodluck and have fun! As for weed, i am unsure about that =[
Hey, im also leaving for Thailand today. I only just found out about this forum too! you gonna have an awesome time. thailand is totally safe for men and women. Ive spent about 4 years of my life living there and now have a tour company taking party and adventure tours there. endorphinadventures.com - the only thing you might wanna take that you cant get easily (from what the sisters tell me) are tampons. If your looking for cool places to go let me know what your into and what u wanna see and i can help u out. Ro
Yea, like the other person said, try not to stand out so much like standing in the middle of the sidewalk trying to figure out your map wearing a hoody with a huge American flag on it lol.
Go to Phi Phi Le, its off Phukett in Thai and also where the movie The Beach was filmed. Be ready to get asked to get your picture taken 600 times in an hour. and take a shot of snakes blood
i had a neigbhbor that told me he loved thailand... he was about 60 years old and said that you could get laid any time of day and drink openly haha. he was a lil weird to say the least. kinda got the creepy old man who just wanted some ass vibe from him. either way have fun!
What you guys sew Canadian flags onto your stuff... it's only fair we get to sew American flags on our stuff... We're all in it for the warm weather. And bubble tea. mmmm Nah just look at where Japan is on the map and then look at where Vancouver is on the map. That's why so many Canadians go to Japan. At least those of us near the west coast.
Sweet man. I've always wanted to ride an elephant, and I'm a sucker for beaches. I heard the beaches in Thailand are pretty crowded though so I might head into Cambodia and try to reach their coastline. Yea sex tourism is pretty big from what I hear. My brother and his friends went a while back and he said at night, especially in Bangkok, you'd get accosted all the time by young women asking if they wanted "nooky nooky". My Grandpa told me when he visited Thailand he was offered "full service" while getting a massage. It must be sort of irritating for the guys who just want to see the country. Nice to have one less thing to worry about.
Does anyone know about smoking weed over there? Is it something you never want to do or something you only want to do if you meet the right people?
