Tent Ventilation

  1. We have no need for a carbon filter, very isolated no fear...so How with my inline fan and ducting do I set up a good flow of air

  2. I do 6 to 10 air changes per hour depending on the grow area size.

A small 2x2x4 tent (16cuft interior) can get that wih nothing more than desk fan or small inline (most can pull at least 10cfm, and in a small tent even setting it at 10cuft per min will change the air very rapidly, not much you can do about it, and may hav to fight with humidity (lots of air changes + drier winter air often means putting a humidifier in there to keep the VPD (Vapor pressure deficit) in line.

If you are doing something bigger (like for example my current grow encompasses about 535cuft) you ave more leeway.
If I want 6 air changes per hour in my tent (so every 10 minutes) that means I need a fan that can pull roughly 50cuft per minute out the tent (and fresh air comes in one of your tent or room vents), almost any cheapo inline 100cfm fan can do the trick, bonus points if its got an adjustment knob so you can set a 100cfm fan to like 60% and be god on your air changes.

I fun 2 inline fans for my area at low speeds, just in case one craps out I know I've got power to spare on the other fan until I can fix or replace the other.

You mentioned you aren't using carbon filtration so you don't need to account for that (a fan set to 100cfm pulling through a carbon filter may lose 20-50% of its flow depending on hos funked up the filter is).

I would recommend this though, if you are using a fan to pull air out of the tent (and then make up air enters the grow area from a supply vent or open flap, to use a $15 section of like 8-10ft flexible dryer vent (make sure the diameter matches your fan diameter, typically 4,5 or 6 inches) and make sure the tent air comes out at least 10 feet (or if possible another room or outdoors) so you aren't creating a pressure loop where the air comes out the fan at the top of your tent, and then a bunch of that air getting pulled right through the tent.

Just make sure you set it up if possible that you have a clean pass-through of air into the grow area, over your plants, past the lights (for cooling) and then out the tent and preferably somewhere at least 10 feet distant, something maybe similar to this (small fan a the floor was because this was a summer grow and it was getting hot, needed to cycle in more cool air off the basement floor in this specific scenario)

Hopes this helps out mate, and apologies if you already knew, best of luck on the grow!

  3. LOL, How are we supposed to know when you never said what size tent/grow room we are to spec out the fan or fans for you .

  4. Thanks for your reply, will sort through your post after some coffee. Another reply stated I should say what size set up. I will below in another post, thanks again

  5. Sorry, you are correct, New indoor grower... I am using a 3'x3'x72" grow tent
I have 8' of duct hose and a 4" inline fan...

  6. Speed controller for the 4inch inline fan , i would have fan another fan blowing on the plants..
you want your plants to slightly shutter in the slight breeze.
I would buy a quality commercial fan I have had mine running for 5 years.
4 inch fan is for removing heat more for temp control then anything else .
You can suck the hot air out or push it out, your choice ,
I push the hot air out doing positive psi in the tent. I do this so bugs dont/crawl into the tent if the wind is any kind of deterrent.
