This is for anyone who's bought this specific tent from this specific company. There's no info on the sizes of the vent holes in the description and specs. It'll be a little while until i receive it, and i wanted to get an idea of what size ducting and fans, etc that i need to be shopping for. Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
I’m guessing after doing a search and studying you image of the tent. The top back wall 4” Lower left 4” Lower back 8” look for a 4” exhaust fan to mount on top, if you are exhausting to outside you need 4” ducting. I would use the 8” in the lower back for my fresh air intake. Mount a screen in the hole to keep little critters and cats out. the lower left I would use the run cords, tubes and hoses if any through.
Ideally you want the passive air to come in from the left lower screen or port, sucking up and through the plants, extracting out the opposite wall high port or ceiling port. A 4" fan/carbon filter should be fine, however, if you get hot summers, you might want to think about buying a 6" fan/filter. I am currently running a 2x4 tent and use a 6" setup. Just make sure that the carbon filter cfm is the same, or higher (preferable) than the fan.
Sugar’s comment is based on real experience. Mine was close, but guessing. Thanks SP. I’m a shed grower not a tent grower.
So, I got the tent yesterday and measured the holes. The larger ones are 6.5 -7" and the small ones are 2.5 -3" just by measuring it still folded up. I'd have to set the whole thing up i guess to know exactly since the material would be taut. So i guess the smaller holes I'd be using for electrical cords and the larger ones for fans & ducting. Im wondering if i should get 4" fans and ducts and cinch the holes around those to save room inside the tent or if I should just get the 6" ones. Just saw the part about the cords. So disregard that part of my comment. But theres the measurements of the larger ones in my comment as well Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Im not actually going to be setting it up until after i paint my bedroom though. I already had plans to do it and i don't want to expose the plant to chemical fumes Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Some put 6” fans in there, but I would do 4” and I’d be happy. You really do save a lot of space in there with the 4”. The lower hole for intake, I would keep it open to 6” with out fan. Use the fan/filter with the upper hole. Luck to you.
If you are pulling enough exhaust out of the tent, fresh air enters the tent through the intake hole and other areas like the zippers. That inward air movement works against any escape smell. The key is the exhaust fan must move enough air to cause the tent walls to move inward, (suction).
Sorry I'm asking so many questions. But the cfm, what speed should i probably be looking for to create negative pressure for this size tent? Currently I've got these 2 fans in my amazon cart until i figure out which one I need. Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
This adapter thing as well in case the fan needs some help staying put or is a different size tham the duct? I saw others that weren't as bulky. Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Your tent is 16 cbft. The smaller fan moves 106 cbft/min. If that is accurate, then there will be an air exchange 6 times a minute. Add your carbon filter and ducting the exchange will be reduced by 50% maybe. An air exchange 3 times a minute will be excellent. You really don't need the adaptor kit thing. Use flex duct and foil tape made for ducting. Recently I help guide another beginner with a similar tent size and fan Amazon fan. Just with the addition of the 4" fan like yours and some ducting his daytime tent temps went from 86 down to 74, and the humidity went down too. There are much better fans, but many beginners are on tight budgets and I support you as you work through this on a budget.
Would you say this fan would be a better choice? Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
A better choice than what?! why is your title "tent hole sizes"? and then you have half a sentence/question about a fan. the fan you get will depend on the size of the grow room/tent. take more than 3 seconds to write out your thread/question. Happy Thursday!!!
Dude theres like several comments above my comment involving fans, tent size, etc. Subject line is for the subject, the rest is for the post. The post is several days old with a bunch of comments that a beginner like myself would ask. Hence the entire purpose of the post/thread. Because fans go in the holes.. Why would i come here to ask about tent hole sizes if fans weren't going to come into the conversation? You know that thing that happens when people say one thing and then another person says something and it kindof goes back and forth like that (and sometimes multiple subjects get discussed). OP: "Hey what size are these tent holes?" Commenter: "They're probably this size." OP: "What size fan should i probably be shopping for?" Commenter: "Depends on the size of your tent." OP: "How powerful should they be?" Commenter: "____ cfm" *explains cfm/cubic feet/carbon filters/etc OP: "Is this fan ok?" Commenter: "Sure it'll do for a person on a budget." OP: "How about this one thats a little more expensive?" Commenter: "Your post sucks. You're doing it wrong." Sent from my moto g power using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Dude, i had no idea how heavy that wide metal fan in the pic is. I'm thinking I might need to reduce the chance of my tent buckling under the weight of the fan+carbon filter+light by not hanging it all from the tent frame or whatever. Trying to save as much space as possible. I wonder if theres a way to make sure the air gets through the carbon filter if i put it on or close to the floor. The tent is going to be a tight fit in the corner of the room except the few inches of space around it to let the air get through the intake screens. So im not sure how i could put the filter on the floor without stopping the air getting through it. Idk maybe thats a non issue. It just seems like putting the filter flush against the floor would prevent enough air getting through it. I had considered a plant hanger that comes with the little chains you hook onto he flower pots or something attached to the wall to help with the weight of the equipment. Yes, the weight of the filter and the fan might be to much for the budget tent. There are several solution that I will suggest that maximize the interior space and add support for your fan and filter. It is most efficient to exhaust from the top of the tent and not the lower areas. HEAT RISES. 1. The 4 vertical tube supports that make the corners can be strengthened by securing 2x2 wood to the tubes. Tape, bungee or wire the 2x2 to the corner tube. At the top connect the 2x2 legs connect with additional horizontal wood supports . The horizontal supports is what can carry the extra weight. 2. To save space you could mount everything outside on top of the tent now that you have the additional wood support. Connect a flexible duct to the upper large hole on the tent. Build a box to contain the filter and fan and install on top of the tent. Connect the flex duct from the tent to the new filter box. Finally connect flex duct to the exhaust side of the fan and run to out side or where ever. You may need a piece of plywood to make a solid roof which will help carry the weight. 3. When making your final connections be sure you are installing the fan to pull through the filter and push to outside. Hot air in tent >flex duct at top of tent >box with filter/fan >out fan >final exit
