I think I finally have things under control with my young uns in the arena of lighting and pH, so the one thing that concerned me was a purple coloration in the leaf tips and edges. All of my afghani strains were getting purple in the leaves, so I thought it was related to some of the things that were going on with high ph, but I've since got that where it should be (I think) and have been controlling pH of the water for over a week. Yet, my plants still show purple tips and edges even on new growth, so a little searching has led me to the conclusion that this is the result of temperature swings from lights on to lights off. The reason I have reached this conclusion is that my Neville's Haze shows some purpling on the underside of its leaves, and it has been receiving ph water of about 6.3-6.5 since day 1. I have not taken the temp readings in the dark hours (my plants "sleep" when I do), but I know my home probably gets in the mid upper 60s at night. During the day, with the lights on in the veg box, the temps get to about 80-83. The box is not in a place that receives the benefit of a vent from the heating at night, so I can imagine that they might go lower than upper 60s, I would guess about mid to lower 60s. I'm not worried about killing the plants, I know they are more hardy than that, but beyond purpling, are there any other detrimental effects of swinging from 60 - 83? Thanks!
Some plants generate color. If your leaves are healthy and its growing your fine. Temp swings are normal and encouraged. Plants grow outside during the day its hotter, during the night its cooler. Attempting to fix small issues usually result in bigger issues especially if you dont know the cause. Just let it be.
Yeah, I was not going to really try a fix, just wanted to know if there were any long term effects from the swings. Thanks!
