Temp needed for glass to crack/chip?

    i live in Wisconsin and enjoy smoking outside. A few days ago while smoking the temp was probably around -5 outside. my question is what temp is needed to crack/chip the glass when you take a hit?:confused_2:

    Well unless the water is frozen i don't think it will chip. I did manage to chip my cheap ass ashcatcher I had for my toro when I was torching my bud. That has to do with too much heat, not how cold it is. I don't think your piece will crack.

    Alright same thing follows for glass pipes as well?

    Glass pipes should never crack, unless there is too much resin buildup or something. The temperature shoulden't affect it.

    Warm it up in your hand or keep it in your pants pocket so its warm. Ive seen em break from the cold then heat from a lighter but in Brett Favre land (MN).

    It's possible to break as a result of the cold but only if you leave it outside for a while.

    Just about anything glass can crack if going from one extreme temp to another.
    If your bong is cold to the touch when you grab it then you just need to make sure you're not keeping the flame from the lighter too close to the glass for extended periods of time....which shouldn't be a problem at all.

    If you hold the bong close to your body when you're not hitting it (i.e. don't stick it in the snow) then the warmth you generate will help keep it from cracking.

    I leave my glass one hitter out in my car every night , I live in Michigan. And it's about-5 out at night. I smoke every morning wondering if it's gonna crack. So far it hasent .
