In other words, while the amendment would not actually defund the NSA or all NSA surveillance, it would defund surveillance conducted under Section 215 of the Patriot Act of millions of ordinary Americans who are not the targets of any investigation.
The vote on this bill is critical. We need to flood Congress with calls in support of the amendment, and hold our representatives accountable.
If you care about the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution and if you believe that privacy is critical to liberty, now is the time to act.
Just a few dozen calls to a single representative can change the way they vote. You can also contact Congress via Demand Progress's website.
This critical amendment to secure our privacy won't pass without public support. One in ten people who visit this site will take action and call their representatives.
Will you be one of them?
</blockquote>\nI'm not sure how much good this will actually do, but hey, it can't hurt to try and spread the message at least, right? Click the link to send your message to congress!

  2. I wish Justin Amash was my Representative. One of the best we have in Congress. Which isn't saying much, but still. He better run for Senate one of these days.

We should heed the words of Ron Wyden, who is also one of the few good ones.

His warning that our cellphones are or could be a “combination phone bug, listening device, location tracker, and hidden camera” is scary shit, straight out of 1984. My prediction is that Glenn Greenwald will soon publish documents leaked by Snowden which show proof that our phones can be used in this fashion.

  3. I thought it was already common knowlege that a smart phone can do all that? Here is an article from 2006 talking about the FBI using phone mics to listen to conversations. http://news.cnet.com/2100-1029-6140191.html

  4. The defunding proposal was rejected. Surprise surprise.

Someone even went as far as to say we all have shitty memories and forgot about 9/11.

I think the vote you're looking for is "yes".

The two self-proclaimed "conservatives" nearest me both voted against the Constitution yesterday. :surprise:

Saw a good Tweet about it: "The Republican Party, like the Democratic Party, is anti-liberty and anti-Constitution."

Roll Call: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2013/roll412.xml - The "Noes" should be voted out of office ASAP.

  7. I must admit, I'm surprised that there were more democrats that voted for it than republicans, guess it just further proves there is absolutely no difference between the two parties anymore. -SMH
