Teen alleges discrimination by Abercrombie & Fitch ---whos side are you on?

  1. She got denied a job because she wore a head scarf? Thats ridiculous.

  2. I'm with Abercrombie & Fitch

Learn to assimilate or be ostracized. She must not have needed the job very bad if she couldn't take off a scarf. It's like the women who refuse to take their burqhas for a driver's license photo, are they just trying to stir shit up? This completely frustrates me

I'm kinda torn. I think the fact that A&F chose to not hire her solely based on that is a bunch of bullshit, but it is a private business that caters to a specific crowd. And you hit the nail on the head, cuz this crowd is the prime example of the society people like you seem to think we have to assimilate into. I'm fine with being socially ostracized if I don't abide by the same trivial social norms of those around me. I'm not fine with this extending to being ostracized from the job market. However, A&F deals with products that are directly associated and related to our society, and societal acceptance in particular, so it's kind of a toss up. I don't think this should be dealt with through legal repercussions. Laws like these are a simple band aid that actually reinforce, rather than solve the problem. I believe that the underlying problems of discrimination, for whatever reasons, should be tackled so this kind of situation never even has to come up. Oh, and fyi, I don't think the solution is assimilation.

  4. The laws of the Civil Rights act that infringe on private hiring practices all need to go, they don't do any good.

  5. abercrombie and fitch may be the douchiest douches on the planet but their right to hire who they want was just totally violated. if they want to have an image of pasty white anglo saxon conformity, so be it. no legal action should be taken against them

  6. I agree with the whole burqhas thing, but just for a head scarf?

Seems a little over the top to me.

  7. its a tough subject for sure. (I think that france went through some controversy with this earlier this summer)

Ultimately it comes down to this: If you accept yamica's (cant spell it) on jewish men then you have to accept a hijab on a muslim woman.

Although it is a little strange considering that no where in the koran does it state that a woman should have to wear anything in particular. But still. I'm gonna go ahead and side with the girl (50% for for civil rights, 50% for never being able to side with abercrombie)

  8. Yeah its so fuckin ridiculous. Why does it have anything to do with her religion? they dont give a fuck about that they just dont want you wearing that shit on your head, fucking bitch. I mean fuck if my religion was to wear a huge dildo on my face can i sue people that dont hire me?

  9. A&F doesn't have to hire her, so the reason they didn't hire her is trivial.

  10. No, that was violated 45 years ago.

Title VII of Civil Rights Act : Prohibits discrimination by covered employers on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin

  11. And thats a bad thing?

  12. bitch take off your stupid pirate bandana if you want to be taken seriously, its as simple as that

AY MATEY IM LOOKING FOR SOME JOB OPENINGS

  13. I'm most definitely with the teen. I mean all you guys are saying is, is 'why didn't she just take it off' or 'she must not have needed it that bad.'

but wtf, was the head scarf really interfering with her ability to work?

And a&f are some ballsy ass people to do this considering their history.

  14. It doesn't accomplish any good and only leads to these pathetic law suits.

  15. Depends if you think limited choices is bad or not I guess, if your boss is a racist scumbag, would you really want to force him to hire you?

  16. Wtf? Is discrimination good then.

I mean I know that sure does good for all those people it helps.

  17. That's absurd.

I think anybody should allow to wear whatever they want and still get a job. It's all about the experience, not by race, clothes, etc.

  18. Not dicriminating against people doesnt accomplish any good?

  19. so if i have tattoos all over my face, piercings and whatnot, i should be able to get a job at lockheed because it doesn't interfere with my ability to work?

being hired is about respect, if this bitch didn't want to show any by taking her dumb hat off, she shouldnt get any back
