I know there is a thread already for coco and tap water. However, I wanted to know with the numbers I got if this would be ok to use in my coco grow Went to a pool store and got these #'s from the water off my tap: Free available chlorine: 0 Total available chlorine: 0 Water PH: 7.6 Total alkalinity: 80 Calcium Hardness: 500 Total Dissolved solids: 525 Phosphates; 100 Im really surprised that I have -0- chlorine in my water wow Or If I need an RO system let meknow.. If not I can use that $ to buy a fan and ducting so I can use my 600w HPS instead of a freakin T5 4bulb thanks
I use my tap water, but my tap is very low in ppm. If I had that tap water, I would be investing in an R.O system.
So I really should get an ro system then I take it??? The hardness is real bad? I don't know these numbers so bare with me.....
Similar to mine: pH ~7.7 439ppm TDS (0.686 EC) 115ppm calcium 68ppm chloride Starting an organic grow with this stuff, should be interesting
You could, they aren't that expensive when considering what you get for the money. A small 3 stage unit can be had for $140. If this is too much coin to drop, you could purchase distilled water from the grocery store. Typically $.99 a gallon. Overtime this cost will equal the system though.
Water store is probally my best bet if I don't get my tax money in time to get my RO.. or... I can just hand feed with like 25cent a 5gal jug from a water store... or just say fuck it and just airate my water. And hope for the best lol
We lucky here to have some of the most puriest tap water in the world, sourced from artesian aquifers where the water ain't seen light for up to 1000 years. Total ppm is 50-60, but this means i could run into calcium issues.
Here is somthing an fish store told me that made me think.. If one was to get a water softner it could kill the fish. So by the same token. If water softened water was used to grow with.. would it do the same? The reason he said was the salt in the system. That it adds salt in the water to help soften it up.... The more new saltless systems are different. I would imagine.
Yeah, you shouldn't water with softened water. RO doesn't use salt though, and is a lot more pure than "softened" water (no Na). Softened water just has less calcium/magnesium and a hell of a lot more sodium.
ya know whats funny is my hand ppm meter I got got says 426tds not 600 that the pool place said... I have an Ro system downstairs that I thought didnt work. but it does it only fills up like a gallon before running out of water. But it gets the water PPM down to 36-45 or so....
