So a buddy of mine was lookin for some clones but I am 15days into flowering I was wondering how long into flowering is it safe to take clones that can revert back into veg?
Sure works fine they are more prone to mold and fungus attach. And of course they will not grow for a wile until they return to veg mode. Its a little more difficult than cloning a veging plant but still a piece of cake if you know what you are doing. Its never to late its just takes them longer to return to veg the further along the plant is into flowering. As long as the flowering plant is not over mature and already beginning to die naturally. Peace
I have tried this many times in the past, and 80% of the time, The plants have gone Herman Munster on me (Hermie). I figure its because those poor babies are programmed to be flowering. Period. Imagine the stress caused by going directly to 18/6 or 24/7... Those hormones are horrible things sometimes, just look @ our women. LOL.
Yep many strains will do that with irregular light cycles. It depends on the strain but if you let them veg long enough after cloning the buds, that nasty hormone pool should clean its self up depending on genetics. Some strains want to turn hermie at the drop of a hat others have to be stressed and stressed. But most can be "reset" to normal growth given enough time and normal light cycles. It can take quite some time to clone a bud and grow it until it returns to 100% veg growth it a trade off if you really want thats plants genetics it may be a worthwhile thing to do. If you have some good seeds it may be almost just as fast to plant them. But then of course you still need to filter out the males. At less your seeds are Fems. in that case a plant from seed may not be to far in growth behind your bud clones. Peace
Well I have 7 northern light plants in flowering, 8 clones with roots and 6 i took right before I went 12/12. I am not giving him my clones. I think northern lights can be stressed pretty badly from my research with little or no ill affects. I am not too along in flowering no signs of buds yet only the cluster of hairs and very small budding sites. Take a look at my grow if you want a better look.
You should be good to go man. I have cloned buds from NL, AK47, White Widow well into very mature budding stage with no hermies. Blueberry and Cali orange bud were not quite as forgiving. But I was running them thru sea of green with very little veg time. Flowering does not change the plants genes justs its life cycle hormones so given enough time any strain should be fine. I would clone the lower branches for your Buddy with no worries. If they are that early into flowering veg growth should kick in within a month with NL. Much faster than planting seeds. Peace
look up monster cropping copied this below from a post by "forgot2wipe" Here's a good read in regard to Monster-Cropping (w/ pix)... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~ Monster Cropping Monster Cropping or Flowering Clones is another method of growing that was brought to my attention by one of our members; JWP, who also was kind enough to provide the pictures for this part of the guide. This method involves taking clones of flowering plants and then forcing them to root and re-veg, which eventually leads to very bushy plants with a great number of branches and nodes. I named this technique Monster Cropping because that is what you will get, real monster plants, but also because this method was introduced to the scene by a grower named greenmonster714. He in turn credits a grower named Feral for discovering this technique. Taking clones from flowering plants goes against all that has been said about cloning cannabis and might therefore seem a bit confusing at first but the science behind the technique is sound and the results speak for themselves. You start by taking clones of a plant that is about 21 days into flowering. This seems to be the best time to do it but you can also takes clones at a later stage with the same results. The lower branches make better clones as they have not yet become rigid and will also root faster and more easily than say the top cola. Move the new cutting into a glass of water and let it sit for a while in order to make sure that no air gets into the vascular system during handling, as this can be fatal to your new plant. You should make the cut so that it runs along the stem as this will increase the surface area for water and possibly nutrient uptake, depending on what method of cloning you use. Personally, I have found that using a small hydroponic setup or a propagation bubbler is by far the best way to clone cannabis plants. I will not expand on the subject of cloning here, if you need more information on how to clone your plants, have a look at the official cloning thread by JJScorpio In the picture below, you can see how the clone from a flowering plant been has placed in a propagation bubbler for rooting and re-vegging. This also means that you will have to put the clone back under a veg light schedule of 18/6, 20/4 or even 24/0. Clones do not need strong light so a small CFL will do. You can remove some of the buds at this stage in order to encourage the plant to revert back into its vegetative cycle but leave the topmost flower alone. It will take several weeks for the clone to root, some never do, so it is best that you take a great number of clones at the same time in order to ensure that at least one makes it on to the next stage. It might be a good idea to place the clones inside a humidity dome, which can be bought at gardening stores or custom built for your specific needs. The high humidity inside the dome will make sure that the plants do not dry out and die. Ventilate the dome every day just to make sure that the plants don't get attacked by mold. Keep in mind however that the most important thing when it comes to cloning is to provide the fresh cuttings with plenty of oxygen and that is why the propagation bubbler is so effective compared to other methods. The clones might be a sorry sight at first but as soon as they root, they will also revert back into the vegetative stage and start growing again. Once the clones have rooted properly and started growing again, they will put out single unserrated leaves at first but the normal leafs are soon to follow. It might be a good idea to apply some training at this stage, tying down some of the tops will encourage even more branching. You can also provide some heat underneath the clones as this will speed up the rooting process considerably. When the plant starts growing again, the incredible branching power of the flowering clone becomes apparent. As you can see, this plant has grown into a real monster, and all this without ever topping the plant. That's the beauty of this technique; you can forget all about topping and FIM'ing since the flowering clone will sprout all these new branches all by itself. This plant is now perfectly suited for a SCROG or perhaps even a SOG grow. This one plant can easily fill up an entire Scrog net in no time. Several of these plants grown in SOG will definitely give you a grand harvest. There are other benefits from using this technique; it also removes the need for keeping mother plants. When the newly re-vegged plant is flowered, it can also provide more clones for a perpetual harvest. Recycling at its best. This might be of interest to those who need to keep down their number of plants. Needless to say, this method is highly effective thanks to the heavy branching that occurs after a flowering clone is re-vegged. With further training and some patience, you will get some real monster plants and thereby also a monster harvest. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~
if you clone them now you should be fine. check out my grow http://forum.grasscity.com/general-indoor-growing/531815-1000w-mh-hps-lst-scrog-dwc-first-grow.html
I finished my first grow awhile back. About 1 week before I harvested, I took about 9 clones. These clones received 24 hours of moderate CFL lighting until rooted. After I harvested the mothers, I moved the clones under a 250w HPS for vegging. They were put under a constant 24hours for about 2-3weeks from there. I took out a few "unworthy" plants because 250w is not enough for 9 plants. These clones ended up being VERY different from their mothers. They were very short and very compact with TOO much growth packed into such a short plant. One of them had 25+ budding sites in under a 10inches. So, long story short. If you are going to clone a budding plant, I would NOT do a 24/0 schedule. Give them a little darkness so they stretch at lest a little bit. Also, (at least from my experience) they do not take as long as to revert back to vegging as some may think. The first week under the 250w hps they put out single leafs. The single leaves ended up looking worse and worse as the days went on (not sure why). They eventually looked crispy, wilted, nute burned or whatever, but this may have been from ph fluctuation, which I later got under control. The second and third week they put out normalish vegetative growth. I say "normalish"because I do not consider the tops splitting into two tops and each of those splitting into two tops (etc..) on their own completely normal. Same thing for the side branches. They have been in flowering for a little over a week and there are white hairs on a few of them, but a few of them had been putting out a few hairs here and there for 2 weeks. So, I'm not sure how well flowering is going. I will be looking at other peoples grow journals and seeing what sort of bud development they are experiencing at 1-2weeks into flower as I do not remember what mine was like for my first grow. This is my experience with cloning flowering plants that were at least 4 weeks into flowering. I hope my experience may help someone. Good Luck Grasscity!
That was an extremely cool thing...going to take another clone now from my poor, confuzzled 3-week-flowering plants. Tyg
Are you sure? thats impossible. It must be a hermie a plant that exhibits both male and female traits. Look at it closely there must be some white hairs along with the pollen sacks. Time to find a new mother plant. Or correct the light cycle if it has been irregular. Peace
I actually have some White Widow and White Rhino clones going rite now that I cut from the bottom of each mother plant after they were almost 5 weeks into flowering... Click on the Nirvana WW & WR Experiment at the bottom of this post to see som pix...
i took an AK47 clone cut in about 5 weeks deep in 12/12. since i took this pic, i have pruned the forming buds off, and after doing so, new vegetative growth occured almost immediately. of course in conjunction with switching back to veg light cycle.. i'm trying over & over to upload the pic but no dice. i'll come back later and give it a shot.
