So all my seeds are ready to be put into soil but someone brought to my attention earlier today that my 400W metal halide light would be too much for the little babies. So they told me to go buy a Shop light / flourscent fixture. i went out and purchased that and all i could find in my garage was cool white bulbs. I need to kno if the cool white bulbs will do anythying for the seedlings or would i be better off with some other type of florescent bulb... if so what spectrem. Plz any help would be great appreciated im missin a party rite now tryin to get Everything figured out. i shoulda had this thought up... Thanks advanced growers...
You could just go buy some grow bulbs at home depot, they aren't as nice as the T bulbs, but they'll do the job for now, I've used 'em before, had alright results.
Do you have any info on the bulbs. i can go to walmart first thing tomorrow... also, do you think id have better results using my 400w mh?? if so how high should i put the above the cups...? You said had allright results also, that must imply before, what you using now to start?
NO man, dont' use a HID for vegging seedlings/clones, its too hot and you'd have to back it off SO much that, it's just not worth it. Just some Grow Bulbs man, you'll find somethin.
ok, i just wanted to kno for sure before i go buy somethin random and have it not work. hopin i could get a pic or a number like 6500k u kno... thanks tho.
Pfft use that 400 bro... 400 is not too heavy. Hell you can start seeds under a 1000w. Keep them a good distance though , at young stages they are more likely to dry out too fast. If you do plan on buying a t5, t12 fixture go with Cool Blue bulbs. Warm white is ok , but I perfer cool blues. and I perfer T5's over t12's
I agree, i thought the 400w was ok too but w/e i did have trouble before with them stretching due to light being too far away, but if i put it any closer id be watering twice daily to keep em from burning.... I am going to go with the t12 fixture i purchased earlier after doing some reading up on it... I am just wondering if i should use my cool white bulbs, or if i should travel to the grow store 1hr a way to get grow T12 bulbs. i really wish somene had better info regarding t12 bulbs and seedlings...
Any fluorescent light will be ok for germinating. I use 26w CFLs and never have a problem (see picture). You don't HAVE to have T5s or T8s or T12s to be successful. I've seen many a grow journal on grasscity over the years featuring plain ol' flourescent shops lights for germinating and cloning. You could go the entire grow from germ to harvest using nothing but shop lights and/or CFLs and do just fine (sure the yield would be less) but the point is that for germinating you can pretty well anything. I've even used incandescent (this back years before I knew anything about growing pot indoors) to start off plants.
Awsome, thanks for confirming that for me man. i think ill use my 4' shop light and my cool white bulbs... i am just doing this because i didnt want them to stretch/ burn from my 400w hid.. You put a smile on my face man, much appreciated.. Anyone wants to review his info and comment on this i would appreciate some feedback. Coolwhite t12 flouros it is for germing as of rite now...
