Switching to metal halide

  1. I was just playing around and came across some articles for HPS users that switched back to MH for the last week or two of flower they were saying it brings out frost I have nothing to lose approaching week 10 of flower so I switched 1 of my 2 bulbs out today just to see has anyone heard of this or attempted it? Starting to get foxtails but still zero amber trichomes anywhere all cloudy though IMG_20231024_072837016_HDR.jpg IMG_20231024_072849408.jpg IMG_20231024_071720452.jpg

  2. thinking about going with LED in the future the heat from the hps is killing my frost it seems

  3. I’ve had many years doing the bulb dance:
    MH for veg
MH for 1st 2 weeks of bloom
    HPS for most of bloom
    and yes
    MH 1-2 weeks of finish

Does it help to run MH for a finish?
    I’m not sure.
I replaced my MH/HPS with LED 4 years ago. I will never go back.
    I had 2 HIDs 400wt each = 800wts
I now run 4 Spider Farmer 1000s over the same 4.5’ x 4’ SCROG, 400wts total. The difference in light technology and the results is fantastic.

  4. Last 2 to 3 weeks of the plants life before harvest if the plant is exposed to UVB waves/ light, the plant will burn making the plant produce up to 30% More resin.
Resin is the plants natural way of producing Sun Block so it will not burn.
You can look up California Light works and look at UVB supplement lighting or lights .

I use a small space heater. There is a discussion on my seasonal climate control in my current journal.
The waste heat from the LED lights is sufficient, so far, this month to maintain temps along with thermostat controled exhaust.

  7. i dont use a tent my exhaust is manual i will most likely do my winter grow under HPS but for next spring LED is the way i am Headed thanks for the input i feel the LED footprint is much more complete coverage maybe not deeper than HPS but more uniform

  8. I think the key to light penetration is:

    1. train the plant to be open from a top view so the light has minimal obstacles when casting light on the growth points resulting in less shadowing.
    2. mount lights from multiple points, I have 4 lights evenly spaced over the 4’ x 4.5’ SCROG. Basically 1 light centered over a 2’ x 2’ area.

my 4 Spider Farmer 1000s are set at 15”-18” above the canopy.

This strategy provides light from 4 angles minimizing shadows with deep penetration.

  9. i am seeing noticeable frost on the plant under the MH compared to the HPS could be coincidental because of maturity rate but i like what i see and smell right now

  10. fucking cats lol even though they arent allowed in the room the hair plus the fans plus the resin makes them magnets thats why the 3 bucket wash is needed everytime i chop and IMO it makes the smoke smoother and the dry/cure longer and slower 00000aaaaa.jpg
