Recently graduated with my computer engineering degree and got a great job at a massive automotive supplier company.

I quit smoking about ~6 months prior and passed my drug tests easily just to have peace of mind. I want to start smoking again, but I'm worried about the chances of a random test.

From the employee handbook, there is no mention of randomized testing but there is mention of testing for things like: getting injured, not following safety protocols, visual cues, smell, poor performance (ie: neglecting responsibilities), etc..

My role is strictly software engineer so I won't ever see any dangerous equipment, but I will get some training in how to do it.

Anyone been in a similar position and had success? Everyone I work with is very chill and the policies are quite modern (pick own hours, work from home, etc.). Was thinking about just getting some fake piss and keeping it in the car at all times just in case they need me to take one again.

  2. A very lame excuse of your employer to make you behave yourself

I hope you are well paid for he loss of your professional dignity

    for what its worth..lol

    good luck

  3. Hardly a loss of dignity, the paycheck is well worth it. From their handbook it seems like there wont be any random testing but I'm looking for tips on how people in similar situations may have handled it.

For example, I'm thinking keeping a bottle of the QuickFix and a pack of the HotHands hand warmers in my car if it ever came to it. Tests show that they stay at ~103 degF for 15 minutes, so two of those should be able to get it up to temperature quickly.

  4. Just make sure you practice exactly how you’re going to heat up your substitute urine. Don’t rely on what you heard or think the hand warmers will do. They are not all reliable and some take a long while to heat up to a high enough temperature to actually heat the bottle up. They do a much better job a “keeping” things warm.

You need to find out, if you are popped to be tested, what’s the procedure. How do you get to clinic? POV? How much time will you have?

You’re in the perfect spot to do this, but plan it all out. I do the same thing and have a complete kit of things I need to take my frozen sample from ice to within range in my vehicle.

  5. Yeah, since QuickFix can allegedly be reheated without issues I'd definitely do some practice runs. Also considering picking up a powered hot pad I could use with my car's 12V supply (either directly or through an adapter). Money is not an issue for this kind of thing.

Will definitely start trying to dig into the things you mentioned though and see if I can find any procedures if it does happen. There's one guy at work who seems like a smoker but I'll have to feel it out more before I'm comfortable asking anyone.
