SUPER RETARDED looking seedling.. WTF

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by scumperception, Mar 7, 2010.

  1. one of the plants i'm growing from random bagseed in a pc case took much longer than the others to start growing leaves. it's about two and a half weeks since germination and up until about 2 days ago it was pretty much only cotyledons and tiny beginnings of leaves.. i dont know what happened, but in the past 2 days it has grown explosively with retard force, all tangled, twisted and crazy looking.. there's random nodes and even a rounded, cotyledon looking leaf on what i'm assuming should be the first set of real leaves. anyone have any idea what would have caused this? i'm almost tempted to keep growing it just to see what it looks like when it's bigger, besides being the plant equivalent of elephant man, it looks like it's growing healthily.

  2. If you have the resources, let it grow. the only downside is high probability of a male. Ya never know, though. Nature has us by the balls.

  3. hmmm... yeah you're probably right.. i guess i'll wait to see if it's got balls before i ax it.

  4. it probably something to do with something very simple, like how the 2 first leaves were encased inside the seed shell.. idk?...

  5. no. male/female from seed is genetically encoded. I don't subscribe to the banana peel producing more females or other bizarre old wives tales that growers claim to produce a higher rate of one or the other

what kind of soil are you using?

  6. up until that point, they were just growing in jiffy peat pellets.. i have 6 other plants that are growing normally, this one seemed to be the runt at first and i was contemplating chucking it, but then 2 days later it started it's crazy tangled leaf growth..

i just transferred the pellets into a 60/40 mixture of MG organic and perlite today

  7. MJ is a hardy plant, MG organic is not the best, but you sound like you know what you're doing and have researched a bit, mixing in the perlite and all.

One time I pried off the seed casing too early and took part of a starter leaf with it. The next leaf set grew twisted like that, even though I was using good soil and the PH was spot on. That same seed went on to become a hearty female that yielded incredibly.. Keep an eye out for new growth. The yellow cotyledons worry me

  8. I meant hermie, lol.
