Sulfate of Potash?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by LionInTheJungle, Sep 16, 2011.

  1. How should i apply my Sulfate of Potash in my soil or in organic tea?
Can it be used as a top dress?:smoke:

  2. Sulfate of Potash - aka Potassium Sulfate, Arcanite and the old term of Potash of Sulfur

This is a mined mineral compound and is widely used as a Potassium & Sulfur source because it does not contain Chloride. It is water soluble meaning that you can use it as part of a general tea or included in an AACT.

This compound was formed from ancient sea deposits meaning that it was once plant material.

A similar compound also used as a fertilizer (soil amendment) is Sulfate of Potash Magnesia - aka Langbeinite, K-MAG, Sul-Po-Mag and several other names). This is the same compound but also has Magnesium (Mg+)

A simple tea of 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon of water is one that I've used and can recommend. While it is 'water soluble' it takes awhile. About 2 days actually. Having a cheap air pump and a $.89 airstone will speed things up considerably.

Don't hi-dose and you only want to apply maybe every 2 or 3 weeks. I'd go with 3 weeks.

To top dress I wouldn't use much more than a couple of teaspoons - about the same amount in a #5 container. If you do either of these then do not apply as a tea.

Good find. Great mineral source and like I said it is widely used by conventional, transitional and organic farmers. It's definitely been around for a few hundred years. Literally.

  3. It may be relevant in this thread, that you can buy earth juice meta k. It is soluble sulfate of potash. No magnesium in this product though, just K.......MIW

  4. Great info LD. Im going to look for that Meta K Wolverine but is it expensive?

If i mix it in my soil how much do i use per gallon?

  5. I think a quart is around $12 and you'll have to read the label for amounts, I do not have a bottle around to help you, sorry.....MIW

  6. Wolverine why did you stop using it?

  7. Yeah man you right. Thanks for the help.

  8. 50 lbs for ~$22 would be the better buy imo

  9. Don't discount getting your k satisfied with weeds. A lot of cheap compostable organic material is full of k. Check it out...
