Suggestions for my first pickup truck?

  1. Hi, I'm going to get my first pick up soon and I need suggestions based on my preference. First off, it has to be within the 7,000$ to 9,000$ mark. Second, it must get good or at least decent mileage. Also, I'd prefer if it was a newer year (ex. 2004) and has a good looking exterior (ex. Chevy Avalanche). I've been looking at the Chevy Avalanche, but it gets bad mileage and the interior isn't so great. The third and last thing I want is a good interior. Something that's comfy (ex. Like a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition) and has an extended or double cab so I can fit more than two people in it. This is important because I need space for people to sit in the back, as well as an area to throw my stuff. Thanks.

When I was auto shopping, I wanted something roomy so I could carry my shit n friends around. But when I test drove my 99 GMC Sonoma ext cab w/ the 4.3, I fell in love. Besides, you'll have a bed anyway. Tell your friends to hop in the backback or throw your shit in the bed.

My 4.3 gets 23-25 mpg. My brothers Xtreme gets a little better.

EDIT: I bought mine for $2500 with 83k miles on it. I've seen tons of '03 s10s/sonomas with LOW mileage going below your price range.

  3. Yeah but stay away if you plan on towing or drive up hills, trannies in GM trucks die so fast. My friends 97 truck had 3 transmissions replaces while our 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee hasn't had a single one. Same mileage, same towing styles, both truck engines and transmissions

You could look at F150s or Tacomas or Frontiers. But most trucks are going to get bad gas mileage

  4. Any truck with a V8 is going to get bad mileage. Deal with it.

The avalanche is the laughing stock of the truck world.

Buy you saying you want to carry people and stuff, you probably wont use the bed much, I'd get a crew cab. 4 full-size doors, but you can only get it in a short bed, unless you want a 3/4 or 1 ton.

Ford is going to be the best bet. The trannys are bulletproof, and motors are strong as hell. With the 5.4 V8, in a supercrew F150, you'll get about 16-18 mpg.

Don't get a chevy. In either category. Their transmissions are shit, and their allison transmissions in their HD diesel trucks are just worth scrap. Any mechanic (including myself) has rebuilt more 350 Chevy motors (350 short blocks, or 5.7) than anything else. There's a reason for that.

The only truck that gets all of the above done, would be a dodge 2500 or 3500. The only offset is, that you'll be paying for diesel fuel instead of gasoline. But, 30-32 mpg on the highway in a truck that has enough torque to twist the frame, it's gonna be all good.

  5. We have a Chevy silverado 1500 lt extended cab, 4 speed auto, and a 5.7 liter vortec v8, bought used for about $10,000 (extended warranty though, few other things) and it had about 80k on it. My only gripes about it are fuel economy, stereo is meh in it, and its rear wheel drive and we have a shit ton of snow right now and no weight in it because my dad is cheap... Otherwise its a great truck... I'm a dodge person myself, so go get a Ram or an older Dakota

  6. Double post.. again...

  7. Ford pickup like an f150 or something like that.

  8. Can't go wrong with a dodge ram.

  9. i was gonna say get a raptor but then i realized u only tryna spend 7-9. but get one of them chevys lowrider joints. n put hydrolics for it lol

  10. The functionality of a pick-up is butchered when you lower it and put hydraulics on it.

  11. i no that. thats y i put the lol there. itd b funny

  12. Murder isnt funny
