Hey everyone, I’m seeing some yellowing leaves on my plants and trying to figure out the cause. The grow has been going roughly a month. I did a recent transplant from 1gallon to 3 gallon bags this weekend. Understandably my tent is only 2x2x5 and I'm working on 5 plants. Research has told me this is a bad idea but I'm sticking with it for now at least. My well water tests around pH 7.5, and I’m wondering if that’s actually high enough to cause issues like I'm having. I’ve ordered a pH Down to help bring it into range (the 6's) and watered with distilled water this evening to help stabilize things a bit if it does anything at all. I’m growing in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and just adjusted my light height to 24" above the canopy in case it was light stress, but I haven’t noticed much of a difference. I'm not using any nutrient fertilizer at the moment, was waiting for flower in this case. I even raised my small 6" fan thinking it was windburn? (I've been googling a lot forgive me) Any thoughts? Could a pH of 7.5 really be enough to cause yellowing, or should I be looking elsewhere (transplant shock, nutrients, etc.)? I've been watering about every 2-3 days, going about a couple inches digging on the sides to see how the soils feeling. Thanks in advance! (edit) I did want to add there are 2 different strains in the tent and both seem to be taking this beating the same.
should try growing one at a time, and in that space, one is enough anyhow. yea pH 7.5 is bad, mkay? Totally locking it out. Not only that, but why is your well water 7.5? Where is the Water Quality Report for your well water? Please post it here. Yuv gotta neutralize your water, I'd use nitric acid, but that's because I'm assuming sh*t that I shouldn't. Need to see the Water Analysis. heh, welcome to the forums.
Thanks, I'll look further in to the water. I bought a cheap ph meter on amazon and that is what it's reading.
Yeah 1 plant should fill a 2x2 by itself. And yeah 7.5ph is high. Also I'd start going by weight to determine when to water. The two in back look like they either need or had too much. Very obvious difference in weight between wet and dry bags. Tug 1 side up when just watered and it will feel heavy, one that needs water will feel very light.
transplant shock mixed with a high ph Question how did the roots look at transplant did they fill the 1 gallon completely?
These are the same age and were transplanted from 1 gallons not to long ago I have four crammed in a 2 by 4 area so that's not your problem I'm thinking transplant shock plus the need for nitrogen I use that liquid fish poo you can. Get at Walmart I hope you can get them figured out but maybe start some more seeds just in case my neighbor had the same issue recently and one already died but this is about what they should look like at this stage
Yea your pots are small so won't take to long for them to dry up some and next feeding just make sure you get your ph down, you got things early so I think you will be ok except to many plants in the small area, once you get them to take off your tent going to be full.
Alright I'm hoping they ease back. To answer the question, the roots looked healthy for the most part, may have been getting a bit crammed. I do have a picture of the roots. The package came today, I have the pH down, going to give an extra day or two no water and hopefully correct it. The plants as a whole are still growing, perhaps slower than I anticipated but they are poking out. I was doing some LST in the beginning but have since eased up because of the discolor. The amount of plants in my tent will be an issue. I have put word out for adoption.
yes those roots look wonderful i believe your girls will make it i would keep them all and then flower only the best ones
go easy on the ph down stuff it is very concentrated you should see more green in the new growth coming in soon
next time i suggest buying mycos powder and sprinkling in the holes it does wonders for transplanting
I find specifically PH up sticks around after drybacks and builds up and eventually throws ph off late in the grow. Use as little as possible. Im using General Hydro ph up and down and sometimes encounter issues when I need to use ph-up often, though Ph-down doesnt really give me issues. I use Silica like ArmorSi to bring my ph up, much safer and beneficial.
Wanted to give an update to where I am currently at as of November 10. I have corrected my pH levels. I have watered one time since the original post with water pH around 6.4 on the November 7th. Original post was November 3. The fan was raised, I believe I was drying out the soil and overwatering due to this. Now you can really tell the difference between the 2 strains, I think the strains are handling my care a bit different from each other. 3 of them are still yellowish and the other 2 are showing a strong green which is pleasing. I've still been doing some LST and light HST across all of them. I am also very much aware now that space is going to be a problem. Plans to be determined.
